We had so much fun talking with all the Star Trek fans at the convention for the 40th anniversary of the franchise that we’d like to share it with you again-

“Mom, I’m NOT going to the Star Trek 40th anniversary convention.” That’s probably what the teenage son was thinking when his mother sewed costumes for the whole family and took them to the suburbs of Chicago to parade around so strangers could take their picture.

If that we’re my family, I would be the young girl on the bottom pointing the phaser gun at the camera.

On today’s show we talk to several die-hard Star Trek fans about their obsession with their favorite film and TV series, why they chose the costumes they wore, and why are they so into the Star Trek universe.

At the time of the recording, the groundbreaking science fiction TV show Star Trek turns 40, and to celebrate they organizedconferences where the fans could mingle in costume with the actors from the show and relish moments from the program.

But before all that, today’s show begins with a nice refreshing gayed up version of the traditional Mojito recipe- the Gay Mojito or “Faustito.”

Our good friends Silky Jumbo and Chicago Now Blogger Michael Lehet join us as we visit Cursed Chicago. No, its not a memorial to the 2016 Olympic Games or to the the Cubs’ losing streak, it’s a big tent on Grand Ave featuring a house of horrors.

Along with Silky and the Scooty and Jojo Show, we’re hosting Beast Feast at Cursed Chicago which will showcase some of the best drag, burlesque and performance art in the city as pre-entertainment before you enter the Chronicles of the Cursed.

Listen as we talk to some of the organizers of the event and the monsters that stalked Fausto with live rats.

We’re going to DC this weekend for the National Equality March. We really hope to see you there as we’re meeting up with Chicago’s chapter of Join the Impact northeast corner of Lafayette Square.

The annual I.M.L. Conference is the place in the Midwest to go every year to get your freak on and check out just about every sexual fetish imaginable, especially those that appeal to gay men. Originally started as a bar contest by Chuck Renslow in the 1970s, it has grown to be one of the largest events of it’s kind, with several other “feeder contests” happening as well, including the Mr. Bootblack and Pecs and Personality Physique Competition. But IML is more than just contests, it’s a happening! In fact most people who attend don’t even go to the contest. They party, play and explore the scene that is happening.

Human animals were very big this year at IML. We caught plenty of human dogs, pups, kittens, bunnies, otters, and of course bears and pigs in our steel jaw leg-hold traps. Now, don’t get on us about the traps, it’s IML after all and they did enjoy gnawing their limbs off to escape us. It’s what they call “play.” But really, why are people getting into being animals in a big way?

My guess is that people are trying to find joyful ways to express themselves sexually in order to get out of themselves and literally not just become another person, but a whole different being. On the other hand, it just looks like an awful lot of work just to get off. Just when does the “play” turn into sex?

We heard the word “play” being tossed around a lot- “pup-play” “tit-torture-play” and “kink-play” just to describe people finding new and unusual ways to turn each other on.

Although one man’s torture is another man’s pleasure, we’re not so sure about the concept. I don’t think anyone would go as far as to want to participate in “tax audit play,” “quadruple-bypass play” or “renewing your drivers license play.” Flip that indeed!

As you may known, I’ve spent the past two weeks dealing with the death of my father, Gonzalo Fernós. Rest in peace papi.

I want to thank all the listeners, friends and family who have been so supportive these past two weeks and being patient with us while we took this time off from making regular shows. But now we’re back!

What was odd about the event was the lack of Asian people. There were high school hip-hop marching bands playing “Candy Shop,” Irish and Scottish six-footers and their lesbian pals playing the bagpipes, plenty of corporate floats (Mickey D’s and Radio Disney) lots of floats with politician’s logos, but very VERY few Chinese or any Asian organizations, groups, or spectacles.

Being big fans of Chinese opera, we really wanted to see some outlandish stuff. Somebody said “farewell” to all the concubines, the most interesting people were the college students dressed up in costumes promoting a Chinese dance show.
