Red for Pride Videos

Today, we feature the first color of the gay rainbow: red. Red is created by light consisting predominantly of the longest wavelengths of light discernible by the human eye. Wavelengths any longer than red can’t be seen by the human eye and are called infrared. Red is also the color of our BASE CHAKRA, if you believe in that stuff. The base chakra deals with our physical identity and is oriented to self-preservation.

Located at the base of the spine, this chakra forms our foundation. It represents the element “earth”, and is therefore related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of grounding and connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence. (source)

I’ve chosen these two videos because I feel they express some of the aspects of the Base Chakra, they are gay and funny enough they prominently use the color red. Hope you enjoy them and feel free to embed a YouTube movie in your comment. One caveat though: it must be RED and please give a short description of the clip.

“Red Head Asians”

The above video, “Red Head Asians” shows some hot young Asian guys as they have fun trying on a red wig and striking different poses with it. Who knows if they will be the future drag queens or trannies of the world or not. Maybe they are just exploring their feminine side and this all they need from their experiment. Whatever they are up to, they sure are enjoying themselves.

“Johnnie Walker Red – Marriage”

This second video, “Johnnie Walker Red – Marriage” is actually a commercial for one of my favorite whiskeys, Johnnie Walker. Again, it has the red motif, it’s gay and it deals with our sense of grounding. It has little bit of a twist ending that any self respecting lesbian will get within the first ten seconds. Sadly, the commercial closet says that the ad never aired.

You always learn new things from podcasts. On today’s show, two of our favorite animal rights activits, Mike Brazel and Sebastian Zoech drive all the way to Chicago to hang out with Ronnie, Marc and Fausto to talk about their adventures on the road.

It seems that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) spends some money sending these handsome young men to small towns to help raise awareness of animal rights and vegetarianism. And considering how handsome and cute these guys are, who wouldn’t want to listen?

On today’s show Miss Ronnie opens up fab fan tribute packages, and reveals to us that the REAL Cleopatra was in fact a hairy ape. The “beautiful” Egyptian woman everyone thinks about was actually Queen Nefretiti, a totally different person.

We really didn’t think it would have any effect on us, but now listening back on this show, I guess it did drive us off the cliff. You’ll just have to listen to me and Miss Ronnie beating a dead horse to the ground.

In the picture to the right, Marc found this on a train seat on his way home from Miss Continental Plus, the worlds fattest drag queen pageant. He asked an Indian guy sitting next to him “What’s that?” and his reply was “I think that it is a bra for the gay.”

Everyone around chuckled. Does anyone know what this is?

Today we take a few steps back in time and give you a behind the scenes “view” of our fabulous, glamorous trip to New York City. I really should have posted this the day we recorded it, since it seems dated, but it’s hilarious nonetheless.

Fausto and V-Marr begin the show improvising a terrible B-Way musical about going to New York for the Meet N’ Greet. Then at the Airport, tons of commotion happens when Miss Ronnie spots a young porn star incognito and asks him if in fact he is who she thinks he is, and will he talk with us for the show. Thompson Square park in New York City has a special holy ground for hippies and for gays. It seems that BOTH the Hare Krishna religion and Wigstock can trace their origins to the exact same spot in this location.

In the 1960′s some hippies came up with a counter cultural religion based on eastern hindu/buddism, and in the 1980′s some drag queens came up with a performance festival who’se cultural impact on gays, drag queens, fashion and performance reach far and wide (and on this show as well.)

Last Saturday my good pal D.J. (who has never worked as a nightclub deejay) and I got all spiffied up and drove down to the Chicago Hilton for the Center on Halsted’s annual gala dinner. Lots of swanky gay men walking around, and of course the TWO words we love: “OPEN BAR.”

After we had filled out tanks with some delicious dinner and wine, we went and tried to enjoy Irene Cara (yes, the legendary Irene) singing her heart out despite the terrible weave she had going.

Come be a fly on the wall as DJ and I serenade you and take you out for a fancy gay night on the town in Chicago.

People tend to overuse the word “Diva.”But sometimes, the title seems fitting. It ceertainly does in Miss Ronnie’s case. She is “la bomba atomica” of podcasting. And people, stand back! Cause Ronnie is MAD for lots of reasons. If the Feast of Fools was an opera, every show with Ronnie would have an aria. Today she sings like Maria Callas.

In this show Miss Ronnie throws a huge temper tantrum because we ran out of Canfield’s Diet 50/50 carbonated citrus beverage. It’s like a low-calorie Squirt, and of course the name helps to add a certain “ghetto fabulousness” because you can say say “fiddy fiddy.” Note: I got confused and you can’t order it online anywhere except through peapod. Sorry folks!

We try and try to calm Miss Ronnie down, but nothing seems to work. Listen as we talk about new AIDS/HIV medication treatments, digital tombstones, and the lovably poisonous komodo dragon named “Faust” which recently got adopted by the local Shedd Aquarium. True story.

The Feast of Fools is a podcast that simply will not die.Show after show, year after year, we’ve gone from being a drag show at some local gay bar, to a wacky play, a musical varitey show, and now in our latest incarnation, the worlds most downloaded gay podcast.

Just what a “gay” podcast is, I guess is a podcast made by gay people, for eveyrone to enjoy. I see us as ambassadors of taste, culture and opinion on everything that crosses our fruity minds into the hearts and souls of the good people of the world. Almost 300 shows, over 1000 people on our frappr map, over 5000 daily downloads and over 3000 subscriptions on iTunes alone.

The Feast of Fools podcast is a portrait of my friends, my family, and the world I live in. We’re all part of the great big time capsule that the internet is, with all these voices buzzing around. Its humbling and exciting all at the same time.

Join us today as Marc Felion, Amanda Steinstein, and me, Fausto Fernós as we reflect on the ol’ odometer turning round and round, the death of Mexican-American singer Selena, and the new BCC gay re-make of the legendary sci-fi tv show “Dr. Who” or as they call him in Puerto Rico: “Doctor Quien?” Not really.

The world’s most beautiful woman (on the internet) Victoria Lamarr joins us today to talk about the personal costs of being out and gay in any profession, but especially in show business.

There are some folks who’ve done better because of the fact they are putting themselves “OUT” there (like us), but there are other entertainers who feel like their whole careers would come crashing down around them if they ever admitted their true feelings in public. Anyone come to mind? Two words: “quarter turns.”

Some talk about how we couldn’t remember Chris Klucsarits’ name (he’s the professional wrestler known as Chris Kanyon that recently came out as gay). Marc and Fausto tell Vmarr and the listener about their little excursion in downtown Chicago today. Marc found himself trying to reach Fausto at another store and the quickest way to get there was through the quad at The Moody Bible Institute. The experience of seeing these well scrubbed young men on the first nice day of spring prompts one to ask the eternal question, “Are they Christian or Gay?” We are pretty sure that we were being cruised or maybe they were just eyeing us up to save our soul. Either way it was still sexy.

In this fast paced show we discuss President Clinton’s call for mandatory HIV testing in countries that have high rates of infection(twenty-seven percent in the country of Lesotho). We talk about a Muslim man that accidentally divorced his wife while he was asleep! We read some touching and delightful letters from listeners. FOF #270 – Desperately Seeking Sanity – 03.20.06

Stand back! This podcast is on fire. Today Marc, V-Marr and Fausto go off on a wild wild ride through the choppy terrain of American religious fundamentalism, starting off with a little skit “starring”conservative political candidate Merril Keiser.

It seems our good friend Merril in an interview recently ‘fessed up to his true feelings about homosexuals, like Sir Elton John and Vice Prez Dick Cheney’s lesbo daughter Mary “Uncle Tom” Cheney. He gets badgered into admitting the only way to deal with the Vice President’s daughter is to kill her and compares laws against drugs to laws against homosexuality.

Of course this takes him into a dark inner turmoil, which thanks to his “charismatic christian” to English Vietnamese translator Ling Liang Trung, everything makes sense in the end. Sort of.

It turns out the Loch Ness Monster after all was Dumbo’s momma. After years of people trying to solve what the Loch Ness Monster was, it turned out to be an elephant swimming. It was all just a big publicity stunt.

On todays naked-podcast (we took off our clothes for the interview) painter, musician and performance artist Debbie Moore shares her amazing experience of being a body/nude activist in California, and living in a group marriage for over three decades.

Josh Kilmer-Purcell led a double life in New York City in the 1990′s. During the day he worked as an art director for a major advertising agency. At night, he wore a pair of acrylic breasts filled with water and live goldfish and under the name Aquadesia.

Also known as Aqua, he worked his routine with our very own Miss Understood at Lucky Chang’s, a popular drag-entertainment Asian restaurant in New York City. Aqua won many contests, but the wild thing about her life is the excess of her existence-booze, drugs, hooker parties, bondage freaks and a hustler boyfriend.

On todays show we discuss his new book “I Am Not Myself These Days: A Memoir.” Josh’s book is tale of being in love with the wrong man in the wrong way. This troublesome romance starts in a drunken mess and ends, well… we don’t want to give it away so you will have to read it to find out!

Fausto opens the show today with a letter from one our listeners. We all have a great time relating to the letter and horsing around with the content. But in the end its Miss Ronnie that sends home the message of “acceptance.” In Miss Ronnie’s colorful way, you can “inspect, accept or reject” and she has been doing a whole lot of accepting these days.

We share another letter from Spike, who after suffering through a difficult lesbian wedding, a burgaled apartment and a computer on the fritz while listening to the Feast of Fools, ended up contracting a venereal disease from his new boyfriend. What would you do? Listen and find out.

We cover some crazy news items including a boy who wins the right to wear a skirt to school. We discuss the way sex relaxes you. Did you know that infantalism, a fetish were adults dress like babies, is sweeping China? Kinda, sort-of. It seems the Red Chinese are sporting white diapers these days.

Jeri is a special needs person who lives on disability with her parents. She speaks to us frankly about her situation, and why she finds hope and inspiration living in rural Tennessee. Eric Himan grew up in a military home, traveling all over the world as his father got stationed. As an adult, Eric travels the road 85% of the year as a grassroots folk-rock musician, initially with his manager Cassandra and now with lesbian musician Andy Moore.

We met Eric Himan years ago when he was just getting started on what is becoming a very prolific music career. On today’s show we talk about one night stands, being a gay musician, why Eric doesn’t sleep around, why Andy Moore needs a personal stylist, and other delicious topics about queer folk-rock music.

The president of the Feast of Fools fan club Alan Gentry had a pet goat who happened to be a hermaphrodite when he was a kid. We’re not kidding you. For real.

For those of you not savvy in gender talk like we urban gays are, a Hermaphrodite is a being who is BOTH male and female. Has a dick and a pussy. So I guess this was the goat that gave milk and semen?

Listen to our yammering about Alan Gentry’s best friend Keith’s Stiles beauty and totally ignore Alan’s fascinating Goat INTER-sex story.

But on another hand WHAT did happen overnight after yesterday’s show? We had such a lovely time we invited the fellas to spend the night. Fausto, Marc and Keith shacked up in one room, and V-Marr and Alan hooked up in another. It was a very playboy mansion moment.

FOF #201 – When Victoria Met Victoria – 11.25.05

Among many of our guests for our Thanksgiving dinner were Victoria Lamarr and my 14 year old niece Victoria Morales. You can imagine the look on my niece’s face when she came face-to-face with this huge crazy Drag Queen who shares the same name as her.

Actually, my family LOVED Victoria LAMARR. V-Marr shares the same self-help core values that my therapist soaked mom loves. Did you know V-Marr has had a vision quest where she discovered her animal guide was a dolphin?
