FOF #196 – The Quest for Fame

Nov 15, 2005 · 33396 views

Ezra Austin walks around the streets of Boystown with a cheap microphone and video camera asking the unwilling a single question: “Who is the most famous gay man in Chicago?”

This guy pounds the pavement and hustles himself in the gay parts of Chicago. He harasses people with a camera and a microphone just to get his story. As you can see, Ezra is one of our beloved kind.

Although the question seems superficial and odd, the video that Ezra produces touches those deep needs in a lot of gay men (and a lot of other people as well) to be recognized and validated by complete strangers, even when you’ve done nothing at all worth meriting it.

Struggling with bills, loneliness, depression -it seems that the desire for fame can be a powerful mythical panacea, a cure-all for all your problems.

On today’s podcast Marc and Fausto chat with Ezra Austin about his video, his real intentions in making the film, Alderman Tom Tunney, and who Scott Nash REALLY is.
