Fukudome is a Japanese baseball player’s last name, it is not a two part command, which I learned much to my disappointment. On Wednesday, I was at the coffee shop and I looked down at the newspaper on the table and saw the headline blaring “Fukudome picks Cubs.” I thought I was looking at one of the local gay rags, after all, it was a little dirty sounding word and the caption did involve a cub, which in gay parlance is a young bear.
Well, it turned out to be the sports section of the Chicago Tribune. I was a little confused so like any smart person, I read the article. Imagine me, reading the sports page. Don’t get me wrong, although I find it hard to follow sports, I love athletic bodies and with a compelling name like Kosuke Fukudome, I couldn’t resist reading about him. It is a name built for comedy. If only Abbot and Costello had been around to see this. Who would have been on first? Or better yet, who would have been on top? It really is up there in the top funny names like Joey Buttafuoco, Gina Lollobrigida, Anna Maria Alberghetti and Peter O’Toole.
He is adorable and he has a funny name. I’m sure he will give us hours of entertainment. I wonder what Hard Gay thinks of him?
The “Word of the Year” for 2007 according to Merriam-Webster is w00t. Huh? WTF? w00t? Well, w00tn’t U like 2 know? Well, of course you w00t. So, w00t is a hybrid of numbers and letters used as an exclamation of happiness or triumph made popular by the gaming community. It is a form of “l33t” speak, which stands for “elite” speak and is pronounced “leet.” It does remind me a bit of LoLcatspeak, but a little less cute and without the endearing pictures. The significance here is that our language changes the more we are become a digital society. Eventually we may just write in binary code- 01 00 01 11 10 00 LOL!

What was the name of that movie in the late 70′s early 80′s about the kids from vietnam over here? It had that kid running around saying “mercedes number one.” I think they depicted the kids squatting over the comode instead of sitting on it. I was really young, like 8, when I saw it so it kind of blurs in my mind now. It had that guy from thirtysomehting in it. The curly haired red headed guy. Oh well… got a block..

I lived in Japan, too, and I tell you I hate traditional Japanese toilets. There was only one time I had to use a Japanese toilet when I was staying at a traditional Japanese inn. I was so freaked out by squating over the hole and dropping poopoo on my undergarments I had to take my pants and underwear off before I could do it. I was even scared of the Japanese electronic “bidets,” too. I was always afraid of pushing the wrong button and something happening to my bum that I didn’t want to happen. Let me tell you, though, the heated toilet seats were to die for in the winter!

Or better yet, he sounds like a good guest for one of your next shows. Maybe he can give some advice on weight training so we all can chant, Fuck-U-Do-Me!
