FOF #802 – Frida Lays it On

Jul 18, 2008 · 100612 views

Chicago drag queen Frida Lay talks about her success on the Feast of Fools podcastRicardo Avila came to the US to pursue a career as a school teacher, but years later ended up as one of Chicago’s most popular drag queens, Frida Lay.

On today’s show, the delightful Frida joins us to talk about her unexpected career as one of Chicago’s most entertaining drag queens.

Although Frida is now one of Chicago’s most sought out performers, she thinks she’s a phony and not a real drag queen. Why does she think she has no act? I think her simple charm and calm demeanor help her stand apart from the crowd and she’s got a great sense of humor.

Frida Lay loves her champagne Frida Lay hosting Roscoe's Wet Boxer Contest Frida Lay unmasked! What a handsome guy

Frida hosts the last Thursdays of every month Roscoe’s Wet Boxer Contest, where guys get warm water sprayed on them to see who’s got the nicest package.

Why do all our guest have fancy underwear? We like the idea of this so much, we HAVE to go see it for ourselves. So be sure to join us on July 31 as we help Frida with the contest by pouring water on the hot guys.

Check out Frida Lay’s MySpace page for a complete list of her Chicago appearances.

Listen as we talk with Frida about the sexy Roscoe’s Wet Boxer Contest, Falling in Love and why she won’t sleep with any of her fans.

eltonjohn-hungryYum yum! Here’s a gay ice cream story. Vermont ice-cream company Ben and Jerry’s just announced their new flavor in honor of musician Elton John- Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road.

The pop singer well known for his hits Candle in the Wind and the Bitch is Back collaborated on the flavor, asking the ice-cream makers “just make it chocolate and peanut butter guys, if you can make something like that work.”

Like the Bluebell ice-cream down in Texas, Elton takes a similar approach to the product, he eats all he can and sells the rest. Just kidding folks!

David Partin with his pregnant girlfriend SamanthaHere’s another sign the economy is in bad shape. It also sounds like Jeff Foxworthy joke: “You might be a redneck if…” you sell your unborn baby boy’s name for a $100 gas card to a radio station.

David Partin recently heard that a local radio station was giving away $100 worth of free gas to the listener who called in with the most interesting item to trade. He won. But seriously, for $100? With today’s oil prices, that’s not even two tanks of gas.

Partin’s girlfriend Samantha says “At least my son will have an interesting story about how he got his name.”

Savor the flavor- Feast of Fools.

Love the show boys….Frida Rocks, but I agree 10:30 on a school night is a little late for me : -( I’ll just have to look at the pictures you take and drool at home.

Marc – Rachel Griffiths was Brenda on Six Feet Under. It’s ok if you don’t know who she is, I don’t mind.

  2. Barbieboy07 says:

Frida is fabulous! I’m a big fan of purple lip gloss!!
But why is it that all the top drag queens in chicago don’t visit the 18+ clubs. I’m dying to see a good drag show! At Sangria’s they have a few queens who also do shows at Circuit, but I think more clubs should have nights for baby fags, or just sneak me in!!

  3. valhum says:

Cool show…….ugh, i am beginning to sound like a broken record, lol.

So, we all call the internet EL internet, as in a he, but i have also heard some people say LA internet as in fem…..so who knows.

  4. I loved the show today, guys! I really like how Frida is so down-to-earth. Have her on again! Ricardo is TOO CUTE! Mmmmm!

Fausto and Ricardo could be brothers! Check out the side-by-side pic on Flikr.

    Love you all!

barbieboy07 – you make a great point about the lack of things to do for babyfags that aren’t social services-related. i would love for you to write something up for lifelube on this – to call attention to what we DO have, and what we DON’T have – and what baby fags would like MORE of…. wanna?

  6. Barbieboy07 says:

Heck yeah! I’ll send my blog to you via your email account,

  7. umich11 says:

It seems like we’ve met half of the Milwaukee PrideFest already! It’s like I was slmost there…

And maybe it’s just me, but we still get plenty of strobe-lit, smoke-machined dance floors at the gay bars I’ve been to…It gives a wonderful ’90s QAF vibe to the event :)

  8. RcktMan says:

Frida has an act–it’s called CLASS! She’s beautiful, she’s funny, and she knows how to work an audience. Every time I’ve seen Frida, whether she be in public among the crowd, or on stage in front of the audience, she flashes that amazing smile and charms everyone from the start.

Chicago loves Frida, and she needs to know that!! :-D

  9. Mark Wilson says:

Loved the show boys had me rolling on the floor, especially the “how do you judge a dick?” section.

  10. Rick in San Diego- I always wondered why Frida was so attractive, but I could never put my finger on WHY. Now I know, because she looks like me! ;)

  11. Yeah Jim! You RUN that blog, bitch!! :)

  12. jimberly says:

Besos to all, and special besos to barbieboy and felix b – sexy bitches!

  13. Barbieboy07 says:

Besos right back to ya papi!

  14. SAL-E says:

I am always about having fun and all that but…………….there is a reason why I only like to do events that are 21 and over…………..For some reason people under 21 do not know how to act. There is always drama when it comes to an all ages events. If we lived in a perfect world then OK. Until then 21 and over events is still the way to go. I am not saying that all that are under 21 are imature but I am at the same time a lot are. I have worked on many projects and events and I can tell ya stories….. Ya wanna hear me talk more about this?
Trust me, there is a reason behind everything, and a time and place as well.
    Love ya
    -SAL-E

  15. Barbieboy07 says:

Sal-E, your totally right, it can get rowdy with a bunch of teens at any event, and God knows there is alot of drama anytime young and old queens get together. It’s a shame that as a whole the under 21 crowd isn’t responsible enough to have top performers, but i’ll just have to wait! thanks for addressing this too, i always wondered why i never saw you at 18+ events.

  16. SAL-E says:

I remember when I used to go to Medusas which was a club here in Chicago back in the day and they had an all ages night and then it turned into 18 and over at 11pm…..it is where I first started going.
Dressed up on the Train Everyone knew where I was going……
Then my Mom and Dad would drop me of, since they did not want me getting beat up or mugged.
Yes, I had a fake ID that said I was 18 and over…………….and yes my parents used to drop me off at the club. The people that worked there knew my parents and always knew when I was arriving. That is the kind of club I would have, Three levels of fun and something for everyone. If only we lived in a perfect world.
Owning and running a club is a lot of work.
I am just lucky to be a part of it.
I will have to check out one of your events sometime.
    Love ya

  17. Kendall says:

what a great show – frida was so fun – it must be a blast to see her interact with the crowd!

  18. umich11 says:

I agree Sal-E and Barbieboy…it’s a shame, but us under-21s are unreliable and immature. Hell, I’d wager most over-21s are still immature! But now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I’ll be satisfied going to foreign countries for my clubbing and wait out my last 6 months before seeing your live shows!

  19. Christian83 says:

I also dont understand why the music in some clubs have to be so loud.
On saturday I went to the Cocoon Club after the CSD in Frankfurt. The club is awesome but the music was sooo loud in the main room. Even a deaf person could have danced to music because you could feel the bass. After ten minutes couldn`t stand it anymore…

  20. SAL-E says:

Yes, sometimes clubs to not do the real investment on their clubs sound systems and you end up getting LOUD NOISE that sounds like Loud music but is actually hurting your ears.
These clubs are the ones that you leave at the end of the night with ringing in your ears.
Music sounds so much better without it being so loud.
Ear plugs……..I cannot tell you how many times I pop them in and people think they are part of the outfit……must be because I sometimes color match them with my outfits? I love the ones that glow in the dark.
    Love ya

  21. Matt says:

Great show, Loved Frida! She is so down to earth and fabulous! I resent the red-neck remark, thank you very much. :D I come from a long line of trailer trash! And I’ve worked real hard to hide it! :) lol All have you know, my momma is the first person in her family to never of had to live in a house that came with wheels on it! lol :D I totally agree with Frida on laughing at yourself. Cause if you cant laugh at yourself, then what can you laugh at? I am not to ugly I hope, I just like to do drag cause I look exactly like my mother, and plus I already look like a girl so why not go the extra few steps and put on dress and some fake tits every once in a while and have some fun? :) Awesome show, would love to hear more of Frida, she is so fabulous and honest. Very refreshing. Chao!

    I loved the Frida interview:
“Shrimps”. “Dick-tures” … once again I’ve had my vocabulary expanded by FOF.

    Cheers.

Speaking of FOF vocab, I introduced “Chimping” at work last year, and the place hasn’t been the same since.
