Thanks guys for this episode. I really enjoy your podcasts, particularly when you have musical guests on

ps. where are those shirtless pics of Qboy?

  3. Jolisa says:

LOL, are you guys really that ethnocentric? Africa really isn’t as wild and savage as you seem to believe, and there are definitely no leopards prowling around my backyard :).

Miriam Makeba (who, btw, is an absolute legend) was quite right when she said, “People in the United States still have a ‘Tarzan’ movie view of Africa. We [too] watch television and listen to the radio and go to dances and fall in love.”

She also said, “You can make all the laws you want, but you cannot change people’s ways.” It’s true that South Africa has one of the most amazing and advanced constitutions in the world and every freedom and human right you can think of, but we still have a great deal of homophobia, xenophobia, racism, sexism, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I personally only know of one married gay couple :(.

Anyway, I enjoyed today’s guest and I love “The Strangest Thing,” it always gets stuck in my head. I never realised it was about what it was actually about, but now it all makes sense. That was really interesting.

  4. Rhea says:

This was a delightful show. Jann is amazing!

  5. DavidMcD says:

Great show, great interview and great music guys. You have the greatest photos of all your guests, nice work!

  6. Jann’s face in the iTunes podcast photo reminds me of Liev Schreiber…or is it just me?

  7. Fantastic! Any chance we can get “Doing Time” in the Feast Blast?

  8. Mark says:

    Fun show, yet again guys!
Miriam Makeba is so great, I was alone in the car last week when I heard that she had passed away, and was so sad. Been listening to her records all over again this week. You should all check out her big hit song Pata Pata, it is such a happy song, and you can hear the clicks in whatever language she is singing in. (Xhosa? I don’t know.) Or get The Click Song or Ring Bell, she has so many great songs.

  9. Drew says:

Big fan of Miriam Makeba here too! 🙂 Mama Afrika, I love you.

  10. Rhea says:

In Marc and Fausto’s defense, they aren’t necessarily being ethnocentric when they’re asking about leopards in Africa; they’re being the mouthpiece for those listeners who are not necessarily informed about life in Africa. By asking the question and getting the answer, the audience becomes better informed. 🙂

  11. Thanks Rhea but a cougar was just shot and killed in the city of Chicago in the springtime. I’m sure there is some funky stuff going on in Africa but yes, we were exaggerating a bit.

  12. Jolisa says:

I see your point Rhea. I guess I’m sometimes confused about what to take seriously, especially since there are a heck of a lot of people who genuinely think that. My friends and I have had to answer a lot absurd questions while travelling, but we find it quite hilarious.

  13. RicoPablo says:

I just listened to this show, getting caught up on some past episodes. What a phenomenal talent Jann is! Thanks for having him on.
