On today’s show we’ve got one Chicago most influential internet people, Andrew Huff, editor and publisher of Gaper’s Block, a Chicago Centric Online Magazine.
A gaper’s block, for those of you who don’t know, is holdup in traffic caused by drivers slowing down to see what happened in an accident or other event on the road.
We never heard of the expression until it was explained to us by Andrew but have since heard it on many news reports about traffic in and around Chicago. In most other places it’s just called rubbernecking.
Andrew’s here to share with us some of the common mistakes bloggers make and how you can attract the audience you want. How do you identify your needs and your audience’s needs?
How do you deal with trolls on your site? What’s the one thing you could be doing right now to make your content shine? And has the day come and gone of the overnight success?
Also, Andrew Shares with us some of his favorite blogs :
– Multiplex Comic
– Daring Fireball
– Couldal.com
– Boing Boing: A Directory of Wonderful Things
– Waxy.org
– Museum of Online Museums
Marc went down to City Hall in support of Marriage Equality in a Day Without a Gay. He joined over a hundred people protesting in the bitter cold for the right ot get married. To learn more about actions taking place in your area, please visit jointheimpact.com
What’s black and white and completely over? Newspapers! Daily Show host Jon Stewart rings the death bell for traditional print media in the wake of the Chicago Tribune filing for bankruptcy.
Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich may be going down, but he’s clinging to power desperately and ignoring a call to step down from President-elect Barack Obama and all 50 Democratic Senators. How long will it take before he resigns? Well, I bet that depends on how much he is willing to accept to give up the seat since government seats are a hot commodity here and are worth more than just “appreciation.”
A crate of fake books thought to be lost at sea has been found, was this just a cheap publicity stunt?

Thanks for having Andrew on your show guys. He’s a Chicago Gem, and one of the most modest, friendly guys I’ve met. Like FOF, his Gapers Block is a product of blood, sweat, tears, and hours of dedicated work.
I went to school with a girl whose middle name was Velvetta. I think Cinnamon sounds much nicer.
The dramatic reading of the Multiplex was hilarious but more for Fausto and Andrew’s acting but I will still check out Multiplex online. Thanks for having Andrew on the show.
Whoops…I meant her name was Velveeta like that block of processed cheese.
Andrew was an interesting guest. Enjoyed to learn more about how to make a blog more successful.
After my finals, during the Christmas holidays I will start my own blog.
mmmm Andrew is HOT!!!!
by the way … Burlesque is nothing but straight women that are drag queen wanna-bes. It’s the heterosexual version of a drag show! LOL LOL and it has had a mega resurgence in the past couple of years for some reason.
I checked out Andrew`s blog. It is good, I like it!
Hey, Tracy, I miss you! Are you going to show us more ways to make our presents for Christmas prettier this year again?
Thanks Tracey I couldn’t figure out which one was which. It thought they were the same. Such a lovely word.
I was so glad to hear about those annoying little square things. Tags and all that shit. The first time I got tagged I was really worried. Who the fuck is doing this? Delicious?
So its really good to have a hot blogger on to explain all these exotic terms. Delicious and all that. What was the lovely one from Chicago, Ill. USA Go Fuck Yourself? I love that. So funny
Dear Fausto and Marc, someone will buy you an atlas for the year end festivity. I mean, where the fuck is Ireland? Is Chicago still in Canada or has it moved? hehe.
I have a globe.
I am enjoying this show immensely. For some reason, I feel this was one of the most easy-flowing conversations. Nice job!
mmm burrrrrrrlesque. I agree with tracey….drag shows are wayyy better. I always liked the name Sheifoxya Wutherfist.
Marc keeps commenting on red heads…will Fausto have to dye his hair? Have you heard the vicious rumor that redheads are going extinct? “If predictions by the Oxford Hair Foundation come to pass, the number of natural redheads everywhere will continue to dwindle until there are none left by the year 2100.”
D’oh! But wait, what’s the Oxford Hair Foundation? Hmmm…funded by Proctor and Gamble…hey, don’t those guys make hair dye?
Marc, get a fix here:

I pick Casey for you.
