A sci-fi film with sexy blue aliens who look like drag queens? Fabulous!
Avatar is a hit! The dizzyingly beautiful film by pioneering Oscar winning director James Cameron features Aussie hunk Sam Worthington as a ex-Marine thrust onto the hostile alien moon of Pandora.
His mission is to gain the trust of the Na’Vi, Pandora’s exotic blue inhabitants, with the ultimate goal of stealing their resources.
The film paints a future where humanity has little respect for nature and indigenous populations and the Na’Vi aliens are an honorable tribe in tune with their environment.
Some go as far to say that the film idealizes native people while dismissing civilization as corrupt.
Will Avatar be the Star Wars of our generation or simply just another movie that mirrors our misconceptions?

Hey Marc & Fausto – Thank you so much for including me on your end of year show! I always have so much fun with you guys – it should be illegal!
Those Avatars are AMAZING!!! Can’t wait to hear the show.
Glad you like them rick! For $35 I’ll turn anyone into a Na’Vi avatar.
Michael, it’s always fun to hear you on the show!
Doesn’t Fausto also have a butcher fetish? He sure butchers names and the English language ALL the time on the show!
Now I’m trying to figure out what the gayest films of 2009 were. I could only think of Milk and Taking Woodstock. Maybe this is something you can cover in a year-end podcast.
Avatar = Dances With Wolves + The Matrix + The Smurfs. Don’t get me started on how Cameron lazily appropriates “UNOBTAINIUM” element from other movies. Tired, cliched, story of foreigners invading and destroying indigenous culture.
Is unobtanium more powerful than plotonium?
Great episode guys! I love Michael Lehet!
I really think the movie was hyped up too much. What’s with the Alien-look-alike robot? For all the money spent on the movie it wasn’t that great. I hope they gave it all to Sam Worthington because if it wasn’t for him – I would have been sleeping through the whole movie! It plays on a lot of issues that the younger generations might not be all that familiar with. Issues like race and oppression which is not a bad thing, but it felt like I’ve seen the movie before.
It is always fun with Michael on the show. Glad I could meet him in person this year.
Avatar was amazing. You have to watch it in 3D to enjoy the magical and beautiful world they created. Have never seen such a well made computer animated movie. It does set new standards!
I wonder, do they also connect their hair when they have sex?
The gayest film in 2009 no matter how you slice it, was the gorgeous, sad, and beautifully delivered “A Single Man” and adaptation of the Christopher Isherwood (gay gay gay) story about a Gay man in 1962 dealing with the death of his lover, directed by fashion designer Tom Ford (gay gay gay) with a stunning career best and award worthy performance by Colin Firth with Julianne Moore as his glamorous fag hag best friend.
Love the picture of you guys avatared. But I think you’re wrong, it’s not “Dances with wolves” guys, it’s “Pocahontas”. Whatever it is I loved it, intend to go see it again in 3D.
Hey Guys
Loved this show. I was listening while making a big meal for my family and was laughing out loud. I love when you have Michael on the show – he is so entertaining.
