Comedian Lizz Winstead

The Golden Globes awards ceremony recognizes outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry, but because it’s also a dinner party, it’s a great excuse to see drunk celebrities and laugh at their tragic fashion choices.

Lizz Winstead in her living roomThe hilarious Lizz Winstead joins us today to dish about tweeting the entire Golden Globes from her cozy couch with her two dogs in New York City. Why does director James Cameron look like Bea Arthur? How fast is Mo’nique’s wild ride from God? Why were so many winning shows and movies so depressing? Will the Oscars be as tragic?

As a co-founder of the popular Daily Show, Lizz has a unique perspective on the ongoing late night talk show wars. Should Coco and the Chin ditch TV and just start their own podcasts?

As a talk show host herself, Lizz has had some strange encounters with guests, including two respected writers from Jezebel, Tracie Egan, and Moe Tkacik, who appeared to be intoxicated on her show and were glib and dismissive about sexual assault. The two later claimed they were set up for a “gotcha” moment which Lizz denies. Boy do we feel Lizz’s pain!

Lizz also tells us how she gave MSNBC anchor and lesbian media darling Rachel Maddow her first big break on Air America.

The crisis in Haiti continues.

And Lizz’s hilarious list of political slogans for Massachusetts teabagger centerfold Scott Brown.

  1. I love when LIzz is on. My beagle sometimes eats poop too. Perhaps I should spice it up with hot sauce as well, that seems like sound advice.

Loved the show, guys. In fact, recently you have been really amazing. All the best. :-)

I thought the choice of Ricky Gervais for host of the Golden Globe was odd too. He has made career out of the good will from the British version of the Office. He was supposedly a “commercial” and “popular” choice who was going to attract US viewers and increase ratings. I don’t understand this choice thought, as he has NEVER had a US hit. Neither of the films he lead were big hits, and I would bet that most people in Middle America don’t even really know who he is or why he’s famous.

He did have a couple good digs, but he was largely a snooze.

Re Conan v Leno. I can’t agree with you. It is possible to care about Health Care Reform, Help Haiti and still have a forceful opinion about the Late Night brouhaha. And just because they are both rich doesn’t mean they should both just hang it up and go fuck themselves.

I, like yourselves consume a massive amount of pop culture and still remain informed and engaged in a variety of local, national, and global issues and participate in a variety of gay and human rights activism, and manage to work full time and manage all of my various friendships and relationships. And somehow I have also found time to have a passionate opinion on the late night wars. They resonate with me because I love TV and the NBC decision to abandon 5 hours of quality scripted television (that hour was mostly devoted to dramas) and give it over to televisions most overrated and boring comedian had an impact on something I enjoy a great deal. I also think Conan is a funnier comedian than Jay. Add to that a lot of drama about corporate control and false promises and contractual obligations and a wide variety of other deceptions and betrayals and it’s no wonder the fight has caught the popular imagination.

I think people are complex enough to be able to manage a variety of interests and issues.

Great show guys! Love hearing from the super funny Lizz. The bit about the hot sauce on the dog turds was hilarious. The insight into how reality stars are effecting our real celebrities was right on. I am so tired of ugly stupid people on TV. I want glamour! That is why I turn to you boys.

  7. Cliff Dix says:

PS I am now following Laura Ingalls on Twitter. Thank you Lizz!

  8. Keoni says:
