Just wanted to courteously note that society is slowly moving away from the blithe use of the word “retarded” to denote something/someone stupid/wrong/weird the same way society has slowly moved away from using “that’s gay” in the same vein.

While I respect your opinion, I think it’s important to note that language evolves over time, even words born out of ignorance. When you begin to “ban” the use of certain words, you’re demonizing the language instead of the intent behind it’s usage. People should always keep context in mind. This forces one to interpret the meaning behind someone’s words and decide for yourself if it’s usage is malicious. Less scrupulous individuals (e.g. Fox News) are terribly egregious at using words as weapons without giving them any sort of context.
