Every community has individuals who function as a hub that bring ideas and people together to make the big gay carousel spin around.
Today we’re joined by Kate X Messer (the “X” is silent) – a cultural nexus for Austin, Texas, talk show host for Austin Community Radio and senior editor for the Austin Chronicle.
Kate came to the Texas capital 18 years ago to cover the South by Southwest Music Festival, and fell in love with the city and uncovered a different side to her sexuality. In some ways, SXSW helped Kate go gay.
Listen as we talk with Kate about the changing face of LGBT media and the impact the enormous music festival has had on the local scene. Plus, how did the Austin Chronicle come to put me, Fausto Fernós and former Texas Governor the late Ann Richards on the cover of their August 1995 issue?
Join us as we recap of the delicious Gay Bi Gay Gay queer music festival and a look back at Chances, the best lesbian bar in Texas, if not the world.
