FOF #1206 – Down Under Brett Every

Jun 16, 2010 · 20707 views

It’s not easy growing up in a macho sports family of rugby players when you’re a gay man who rather be making music.

As a young man, Australian musician Brett Every had to beg his family to drop sports in favor of music.

And lucky for us! Join us as Brett takes us to the land down under for a live music session with songs about Rue McClanahan, gay sailors and finding your Prince Charming.

Brett’s on a Gay Pride tour that will take him to the UK, Finland and Germany. Maybe he’ll be playing near you.

Listen as we talk all things Australians- from pop culture items like Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Mad Max, Sydney Mardi Gras and Aussie Bum underwear to what tastes better, kangaroos or emus?

Plus what’ up with all the hot men from the land of Oz- Sam Worthington, Ryan Kwanten and Hugh Jackman? And do Australians all go around saying “A dingo ate my baby?”

Crikey, it’s a podcast.

Fausto: The reason Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth tongue-kissed at the Tony Awards was because they were replying to a recent controversial article in Newsweek that stated Sean Hayes gave a “wooden” performance as a gay man playing straight. The article went on to say that straight men could play gay roles much better than gay men could play straight roles. In the context of responding to the controversy surrounding the article, I thought the kiss was the perfect response, and not embarrassing to Hayes at all.

I would say that Brett every is more like Elvis Costello or even a little like James Taylor. TO me Jay Brannan’s urban poetry seems much more like the gay version of Joni Mitchell. Just listen to Ever after Happily…
