FOF #1212 – A Sporty Gay Parade

Jun 28, 2010 · 19985 views

Chicago’s Pride Parade took a sporty twist this year as the Blackhawks defense-man Brent Sopel picked his one personal day with the Stanley Cup to share it with over 300,000 people in attendance. Brent brought the trophy to the parade to honor his friend, hockey coach Brian Burke, whose son Brendan Burke died in a terrible car accident shortly after coming out last year.

We salute you Brent and the Chicago Gay Hockey Association who lobbied hard to make it happen, dreams do come true.

And to add to the celebration the Chicago Cubs finally made their Pride Parade debut this year as well. Here’s hoping the Cubs curse will be broken by the rainbow spirit!

Joining us on today’s show are Feast of Fun pop culture blogger Ryan Justice and political blogger Phil Reese. You can also find Ryan at Chicago Now and Phil at the Bilerico Project.

Listen as we take a look at the touching, sexy and wild moments of the parade, from the Trannylicious Avatar Float to the Threadless Mister Mittens Giant Cat Head. Should we just ditch the ho-hum political activism at the parade and turn it into what everyone wants- one big carnival!

Plus the hot news:

Enrique Igelisas says he wants RuPaul to serenade him.

Mike Huckabee’s own “Ick Factor.”

And who had the best float in the Pride Parade?

I wonder how RuPaul came with the idea to make this song “Strudelmodel”. But it is fun.

    Pride parade is always fun.:)

Next weekend I will take part the Cologne pride parade, then end of July, beginning of August the gay games in Cologne and the Mannheim pride parade will be beginning of August. In between a little world cup, so these days it seems the celebrations never end. :)
