Unexpectedly, women in Chicago are butching it up, turning to whiskey drinks and dining at upscale Steakhouses. Have their tastes changed or are they going where the men are?
On today’s show we’re joined once again by Erica Bethe Levin, creator and editor of Cheeky Chicago, an online magazine for women. Erica has her pulse on nighttime trends and she’s here to share the reasons why Steakhouses and hard liquor are becoming popular with the ladies.
Listen as we also talk about Rahm Emanuel’s return to Chicago and his run for mayor, Erica’s new radio show that’s in the works and why the number 22 bus in Chicago is the best singles bar in town.

Two things on the Andrew Shirvell scandal:
1) This has been huge at the University of Michigan. The first time I saw it was during welcome week at one of the annual LGBT Commission events called “Gayz Graze.” There was someone walking through the crowds wearing a poster board with the swastika/rainbow pictures of Chris Armstrong you were talking about. Everyone just ignored him, but I couldn’t believe someone would do that to someone that was expected to be in attendance.
In response to these “hate crimes,” there have been many support groups/ ally teams backing Chris Armstrong (I was just invited to another one minutes ago). Don’t worry about the haters, there are definitely supporters fighting the assistant attorney general.
2) What Chris Armstrong was fighting for is called “Gender Neutral Housing.” The idea is to address the needs of the transexual and LGBT students coming into the university. Instead of being forced to house with someone of the same sex (that a student may have an attraction to) it is to give these students an option to be paired in a different situation. The argument is that it is an unfair system because students may be forced into dangerous situations. Of course, General Neutral Housing has caused debates whether all students would apply for it to room with everyone else as well as the bathroom issue you brought up on the show.
Just some extra info from inside the system. =v)
I’ve been thinking about the Tyler Clementi story all morning. It’s a whole other level of bullying and I’m glad the bully roommate will probably be going to prison. To support the cause though, I think I need to broadcast myself having sex on the internet. You know, just to lessen the stigma of it.
Hopefully more victims like this 11 year old boy will fight back.
it is unfortunate that gay kids in schools are killing themselves over being bullied, yet it dosen’t seem like much is being done about it, the kids responsible for another kid’s death either just get a slap on the wrist, or if they are put in jail, does the school actually put any effort into trying to stop future death’s of LGBT students happening again?? you know that school in Texas won’t do anything about it. I have a feeling the two college kids who posted the video online will get off lightly too…
A therapist I know is suggesting they include ethics classes in high school curricula. Doubtful that all but the most progressive schools would implement that, though.
