FOF #1319 – Trends And Predictions for 2011

President Obama practically begged the nation during his State of the Union address to invest in the internet to secure the future of democracy and bring about change.

But if social media really is such a powerful tool for change, why do we still struggle in this country with universal health care, drug law reform and gay rights? Why do we instead focus on which Doritos ad will be aired during the Superbowl?

Countries like Egypt and Iran routinely block websites because they fear losing control. Soon, bloodthirsty dictators will use social media to manipulate their citizens, forcing them to follow their status updates with an iron thumb.

Today we predict what 2011 will be like by looking at the events and trends that made the headlines in 2010 and warping them into the future.
