For many gay folks, moving to the big city may be an important rite of passage but in some ways it’s become a lot easier to lead a happy life in your own hometown.

Do gay people still need to move to urban cities to lead happy lives?

Paula Abdul’s early years, according to Wikipedia: Abdul’s father, Harry Abdul, a Syrian Jew, was born in Aleppo, Syria, raised in Brazil, and subsequently emigrated to the United States;[6] Abdul’s mother, Lorraine M. (née Rykiss), a Canadian Jew, is originally from Minnedosa, Manitoba with ancestors from Russia and Ukraine,[7][8] and Abdul derives Canadian citizenship through her. She has a sister named Wendy, who is 7 years her senior. In 1980, she graduated from Van Nuys High School and was voted girl with the funniest laugh.[citation needed]

    • Thanks mom! I thought I remembered Ms Abdul being of middle eastern origin.

And now I’m also realizing that American Idol and X Factor have very few American born judges, I wonder why that is?

None of the judges on X-Factor are American, and only one (Randy Jackson) was born in the USA. I guess Americans enjoy having foreigners judge them harshly on TV.
