Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Fausto Fernós created the Feast of Fools in 1998 as wacky artists variety show in Chicago, Illinois. Feast of Fun grew out of an audio blog to promote the live show into the world’s most downloaded talk show aimed for gay people.

When I heard about this pledge, all I could think was, “I’ll take that pledge. I won’t follow it, but neither will anyone else.”
I have always wondered what the legal status of a transgendered person is. How does that work? You fellas should have someone on to talk about this. You’ve talked a lot about trans issues on the show, but I don’t know that this has ever come up.
Some states allow trans people to get married to “opposite” gendered people, some don’t. That’s pretty much where the line is drawn with regards to legal status of a person’s gender.
But trans people are discriminated against all the time in all sorts of ways.
I’m actually more curious about whether they are able to legally change their sex. There are a variety of legal implications of sex. Consider getting a passport to travel abroad just as an example. Name changes, credit history, it goes on an on. It seems like it would be incredibly complex, and to what extent can you legally make these changes?
My understanding is that post genital corrective surgery, most trans folks can change any document to reflect their gender identity, but it’s not always easy to do so.
There are also cases when a person has both sets of genitals (intersex) and finds out medically they need to remove one or the other gonad to avoid them becoming cancerous, being ill. As a result, there has always been a medical precedence to allow people to change their sex.
Do you know of any sex change legal experts? I’ll ask around to see if there’s such a person.
