FOFA #1429 – The Fagbug Keeps on Rolling

Beep, beep! Today we’re talking to Erin Davies the lady who drives the now rainbow colored Fagbug! Erin turned her Volkswagen Beetle that had been vandalized with the word “Fag” into an art project and tours the country documenting people’s reactions to the unusual automobile.

Erin appeared on our show in August of 2007 when she first started taking the graffitied car around. We were blown away by the public reaction to her story on our site- many in Erin’s own community of Albany, NY turned against her and actively denounced her mission as one of self-promotion with little social value.

Despite the challenges of naysayers, Erin finished the documentary and she’s here today to talk about why her community railed against her, life on the road and meeting thousands of people from all walks of life who shared their own stories of surviving hateful attacks.
