Tim Gunn, the openly gay, former mentor to aspiring designers on the hit reality TV show Project Runway, and now co-host of the group talk show “The Revolution” stunned the world yesterday when he revealed that he hasn’t had sex with anyone in 29 years.
Fausto Fernós is the host of iTunes’ #1 LGBT talk show, the Feast of Fun podcast, which he produces and hosts with his partner, Marc Felion.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Fausto Fernós created the Feast of Fools in 1998 as wacky artists variety show in Chicago, Illinois. Feast of Fun grew out of an audio blog to promote the live show into the world’s most downloaded talk show aimed for gay people.
When he’s not blogging, recording or sleeping, Fausto can be found at the gym or appreciating the beauty found in nature.

A very interesting podcast. You were partially correct about Vanna White. Her birth name is Vanna Marie Rosich and she is a mix of Spanish, Italian and German descent. She actually was a contestant on The Price Is Right in 1980 but never made it out of Contestant’s Row. She started on Wheel of Fortune in 1983. Her uncle is actor Christopher George.
There are many reasons why a person may not have sex for many years. Here are a few that I can think of:
1. Psychiatric problems – many anti-depressants kill the sex drive.
2. Alcohol or substance use and dependency.
3. An abusive relationship.
4. Side effects from other prescribed medications.
Wow.
1st: I don’t think it’s a problem if someone decides to go celibate if they truly want to. More power to them.
BUT
2nd: I agree with you two: this seems like the reason he has gone 29 years without sex is because of a seriously abusive relationship and attack when he was extremely vulnerable. It’s a shame that he won’t be experiencing the sexual fulfillment & intimacy that he would desire if he wasn’t scarred. But that’s why we have Fausto, right. He’ll get him back on track.
Yes believe it or not, there are more asexuals out there than you think and not everyone out there are fucking like rabbits. Like Tim Gunn said perfectly, asexuals are no less of a person for choosing not to have a sexual partner, and while Tim Gunn has had a difficult past, I am sure many other people who identify as asexual didn’t have some traumatic past involving sex, or were in a destructive relationship of some sort.
Society pressures people into being in a relationship, that you can’t be happy in your life if you don’t have someone, and then on the flip side you see things talking about what men and women do wrong in a relationship, and what makes a relationship fail, and what you as a man/woman are doing wrong as a partner, it’s all fucked up.
Me, I choose to be asexual, I have no desire to have a sexual partner, if I did choose someone, it would be a man, but let’s just say I don’t need a penis attached to a breathing body to have my own sexual fulfillment if you know what I mean *nudge nudge wink wink* There are other reasons for why I choose to be asexual, but I won’t get into that, but yes, I am perfectly content with how I live. I DON’T NEED NO MAN. lol
If not having sex with someone shortens my lifespan, gives me the higher chance of getting some kind of cancer or some bullshit, I don’t really care.
I hope Tim Gunn still finds happiness within himself, whether it is staying staying celibate, or finding a partner that can make him happy.
2. About 20+ years ago Vanna White wrote a book and there was a carboard display of Vanna to promote the book in Book Stores. Well one night after work I found that Carboard Cutout left outside the bookstore and took it home to my parents house. The dog wouldn’t stop barking at it, so the next day my dad took it to work with him (he worked at NBC studios in Burbank, CA). The Technical Engineers there drew tattoos and eypatches and blacked out her teeth.
3. I listened to three of your podcasts in a row… so not sure which one it was on. But Fausto, you really shouldn’t be upset about the fact that you don’t clean. There is always a balance in a relationship and sharing the chores is not always equal (not even close more often than not). My husband I adore, but I think he will do the dishes and empty the trash maybe 4 times a year if I guilt him to. Otherwise toilets and showers will remain dirty, trash will stay overflowing throught the house, laundry will remain dirty and he will eat out at McDonalds instead of buying many groceries unless they involve hot dogs, beans and noodle packets. Me, I’m not super neat guy, but I have lived in a Pack Rat household, and between that and my A.D.D. I can’t stand to have too much disorder in my life.
