The wait is finally over. RuPaul finally crowned the spooky kooky Sharon Needles as America’s Next Drag Superstar, and crowds in gay bars across the nation cheered like people at the Superbowl.
BUT! Did you know Sharon Needles and her mom almost got thrown in jail on the night of the ceremony? Listen as we discuss the finale of RuPauls’ Drag Race and Sharon Needles’ hilarious but shocking story.

Just followed your twitter Zach.
I have the same issues that you have with food impulse control. For a few years I stayed good at managing to not start because then I knew I wouldn’t finish. (I need to get back to that) Anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it is crack to me. Generally if I avoid that I’m okay.
The only time you can really be eating sugar is right after the gym, and only then about 40g of sugar which is like a third of a packet of skittles. Or better yet eat an apple or a banana.
Eating foods that spike your blood sugar is generally a good thing to avoid, as well as foods high in sodium or fat, like pizza and fried cheese. LOL
I’ve heard that eating junk food makes people crave more junk food. So if you have a food impulse problem, chances are because your diet hasn’t been mostly lean meats, green vegetables and whole grains (but not wheat or soy.)
My favorite meal is grilled chicken breasts with quinoa and steamed broccoli, of course I add a little gravy! Gotta have the gravy. Mmmmm.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if you’re eating really well, plan for one day of the week where you’re not scrutinizing everything and eating that fried dough if you want to.
One thing that’s also worked miracles for me is generally cutting down my consumption of alcohol to zero. Booze is so insidious on how it robs us of energy and muscle, while we’re feeling spirited and happy.
“I’ve heard that eating junk food makes people crave more junk food” EXACTLY MY ISSUE. As soon as I start with processed fruit snacks, skittles, starburst or anything like that I need more. I remember how good it tasted (even if at first it tastes chemical to me) and feel cravings from my taste buds down to my stomach. Not kidding. Why don’t I do drugs? I have enough withdrawals from candy, I’d hate to think how I’d deal with real crack.
The “eat what you want one day a week” thing is one of the key points to Body for LIFE and I’ve seen it mentioned in a lot of other diet plans. It’s an idea that’s repeated enough to be totally valid I think. Little by little I’m getting my diet back on track. I’m back down to 15% body fat and will be happy when I hit 12% again.
I don’t drink often either. I might have a drink once every couple of months on average these days. Drunk? Probably once every four to six months on average. (though I did break that average last month by going to Marty’s Martini Bar twice each time having one martini … Those are potent) You’re right, there’s nothing beneficial to come from alcohol.
I tried hard to avoid spoilers!!!
I owe you a spoiler, mr Fernós!!
First of all, I love alcohol, and part of the deal with agreeing to participate in the study was that if I couldn’t drink, I was out! I’m not an alcoholic, but I like a couple of drinks once or twice a week, and that’s non-negotiable. The deal we came to is that I can have two drinks, twice a week — wine, beer, or spirits with a zero-calorie mixer. That’s right around my average alcohol intake anyway.
When it comes to food, I have three weaknesses: milk chocolate, peanut butter, and baked goods. I’m actually generally pretty good at avoiding the first two (I do eat organic, no-sugar-added peanut butter fairly regularly, and movie theaters don’t count), but if I go to a restaurant that has good pancakes or French toast or (GASP!) CINNAMON ROLLS . . . I’m done. And given that Andersonville is the brunch capital of Chicago, it’s an almost daily struggle.
I should also be clear that I’m happy with the way I look and am doing this study/diet because I want to improve my eating habits for health reasons. No matter the diet I try, I’m never going to be a twink or a gym bunny, and I’m totally ok with that; my focus is on keeping myself healthy and avoiding the diabetes that many of my family members have. It’s like wearing sunscreen: adopting good habits now will help to secure longevity and youthfulness in the future!
That’s the absolute right attitude to have! This is the only body you’re ever going to get. Make it last!!
