If you thought men wrestling in spandex couldn’t get any gayer, you were wrong.

With X Men’s Northstar set to marry his longtime boyfriend Kyle, we are joined by cultural critic and comic book nerd Zach Lamm to talk about how comic book culture is embracing diversity more than ever.

  1. I had no idea that pink kryptonite’s ability to make Superman gay is a real thing in the D.C. comics-verse.

  2. Marc Felion says:

Zach, please bring it to the gym I want to see it!

  3. Marc Felion says:

Zach was so sweet and brought us a copy of the comic!

  4. I wouldn’t expect too much diversity from DC, the announcement of a gay character is probably just a move to compete with Marvel. After their relaunch of The New 52 in 2011, many black super heroes had their comic series cut. Their staff of women has been reduced from 12% to 1% I am not sure if this has changed, DC promised to add more female creators to the DC staff, but I don’t know if any progress has been made. With this reboot several popular female super heroes had their designs changed and were reduced to being ridiculous, over-sexualized bimbos.

Still, misogyny aside, it’s nice to see some gay characters be introduced in the mainstream comic circle.

Went to see Battle Ship with my Dad. It was actually quite fun. Between hunky guys mostly naked and in uniform, Socker Players playing RIMpack? Explosions, Aliens, Humor… it actually was a decent movie (several odd editing plot holes…if you go see it. Why did the alien release the scientist? The aliens travel millions of miles and all there big ships can do is Leap Frog across the water? In either case… don’t short change it. It was fun and was cool with paying $12 to see it. Plus some fun music. Love the Chicken Burrito scene.

  6. BASboy says:

PS… Showgirls The Musical on Kickstarter… the link doesn’t work and when I searched for it the only ShowGilrs was a failed fundraiser and based in NY.

  7. David Ayllon says:

Awesome episode! It might be because I’m a comic book nerd, or because Zach is ten shades of adorable, or because I’m REALLY liking the song at the end.
