Killer-THUMB-JUN2012

Luka Rocco Magnotta, the killer who chopped up his boyfriend for a little publicity has been caught, ending a sensational international manhunt.

Are we cultivating unhealthy relationships by sharing ourselves on social media, or are people just uptight about the new generation’s way of expressing themselves and understanding others?

As technology becomes more a part of our lives the severity of psychiatric illnesses also increases. Internet addiction has severe consequences, one of which is lack of healthy social skills. This guy may of thought that his behavior had no real world consequences. Both video game addiction and internet addiction are causing more and more aggressive behavior in the real world. I am glad that he was caught. Maybe he wanted to be caught. I bought an Xbox last year and the games had such a high risk of dependency that I sold the Xbox a few months later. When interacting with people on the computer I am always thinking – Have I ever met this person? Can I call this person? Can we have lunch together instead of using the computer to communicate? Loved the podcast guys!

  2. I think people who are very socially awkward irl often depend on the internet and social networking sites for everything. I’ve seen people say some pretty fucked up things on different websites, but you have to wonder how they live their lives outside of the internet, are they the same horrible person that they are on the internet or does the internet give them the “power” to be terrible people? I think it’s a little bit of both.

Fausto is right about graphic disturbing things you see early in your life sticking in your head forever. The most gruesome real thing I’ve ever seen that was from the internet was when that journalist(or whatever his occupation was, I can’t remember) was decapitated by those terrorists(or whoever they were I have a bad memory) I only saw it once, but I don’t remember being too mortified by it, I guess because I’ve been desensitized by violence and gore from movies n’stuff.

Luka Rocco Magnotta alias Vladimir Romanov must be very stupid. Why does he fly to Paris and goes to Berlin by bus? Why not to Latin America like Argentina or to East Europe where it is easier to hide. Apparently he wanted be caught. The police caught him in an internet cafe not far from where a friend of my lives.

I would not blame social media, psychologically disturbed people have always been there.
