I was never a big fan of Dida’s drag style, but I’ve always thought she was a wonderful human being. I’m glad to hear she is happy and successful. To be honest, I would have preferred to hear her thoughts on Sharon’s whole racism thing, rather than Phi Phi’s “help” joke, or whatever she said that was never even revealed, but great interview anyway.
Here’s a sample of the show:
Holy crap. You guys know that I think you are deeply cynical, unwilling to see anything that any person with the slightest public profile says or does as being even remotely authentic, but I think you literally built the mother fucking Tower of Babel of cynicism on the this show. A tower that leads anyone foolish enough to climb it along with you to an edge perched 3 million miles above the surface of Earth from which the only possible outcome for a misstep or teeter is certain death. Your accusation that Chris Brown and Rhianna planned her beating as a publicity stunt was literally the single most cynical thing ever uttered in the history of the world.
I’m no fan of either of them, but you should get your facts straight. They were both successful and famous the night of the incident. The day of what you claim was an attempt to take a largely unknown pair of people and make them famous, Rhianna had already made the #1 spot on the hot 100 4 times, and had 5 other songs reach the top 10 in the 3 years. Notably her single “Umbrella” had spent 7 weeks at the top after DEBUTING on the Billboard Top 40 at #1, had been the biggest single debut on iTunes up to that time, was the #2 single of 2007, holds the record for longest stay at #1 on the UK charts during the decade. Hardly the achievements of a an obscure pop singer hungry for a desperate PR move. She was scheduled to perform on the Grammies that night, certainly a very high profile gig that would give her enormous PR and not require she be beaten and bruised for public sympathy.
For his part Chris Brown had two #1 Billboard hits, four additional top tens, and 3 additional top 40 hits. An accomplished dancer, he was a regular performer on the Grammies, American Music Awards and VMAs, and had appeared as an actor in the dance film “Stomp the Yard”. Also not an obscure figure so desperate for some PR that he would risk being known as an abuser of women for the rest of his life.
I’m going to give you guys the benefit of the doubt and assume that you guys weren’t merely cynically suggesting this to get a rise out of your audience, and that you were just mistaken and didn’t know what you didn’t know about them.
Despite this, this was, as always a great show. I love the interviews with the Drag Race contestants and am so glad you guys have cultivated yourselves as THE go-to source for all behind the scenes info, advice, and dirt about the show. Love you!
I’m actually morbidly fascinated to see how you guys can top yourself with this one. My cynicism detection radar is poised and ready! Go for it!
