Netflix’s newest hit, the spooky sci-fi series, Stranger Things, started off as an experiment where the filmmakers tried to see how many scenes from classic 80’s films they could fit into a trailer.

Today, the fabulous Carma Nibarger, joins us to take a look at some strange but true facts you probably didn’t know about Stranger Things and the 80s films and TV shows by people like Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, and John Carpenter that inspired the spooky series.

I think it would have been beneficial for Fausto to actually watch the show if he’s going to talk about it for an hour.

Granted Caitlyn Jenner is a Republican, a group that hasn’t been as supportive of trans rights as Democrats. Can you please give her a break? As an Olympian golden boy, she’s bought the transgender issue mainstream in a way no other established transgender person closer to your political bent ever could. Try to be charitable and appreciate someone on the other side pushing for reform within the Republican party. We don’t have to part of the same group think to work together and belong.

    • I totally agree with you that political change for LGBT folks has to be Indepedent politically, not affiliated with any party.

But to say that Republicans aren’t as supportive as Democrats is an exaggeration.

Republicans are leading the charge on the whole ridiculous bathroom bills thing. They have consistently pushed for anti-LGBT measures. Caitlyn Jenner has been trying to curry favor with some of the most heinous candidates in the GOP like Ted Cruz, in an election year where they have adopted the most anti-trans, anti-gay,lesbian,bi,queer plattform ever.

Caitlyn was tone-deaf. She never acknowledges the negative impact her and her family’s obsession with wealth and fame has on disenfranchised LGBT folks.

I don’t know about your thoughts on this (I have no idea who I’m talking to) but from my vantage point I’ve seen quite a few trans people have some heavy feelings about the whole show.

The vibe I got was a sense of relief. HAVE you seen Her Story? Now that is how you make media that features trans storylines.

I wanted I am Cait to be the awesome show it needed to be. I was hugely disappointed in both Caitlyn, the producers and the outcome.

      Big hugs
      Fausto

I felt that they were knowingly or unknowingly drawing upon X-Files as well. I’m sure Chris Carter was influenced by Alien and the Thing, though.

I will actually be disappointed if Season 2 of Stranger Things is a continuation of the same story. I feel that Season 1 ran its course. I’m hoping for an entirely new story with new characters, perhaps with some of the same actors playing different characters (a la American Horror Story). I feel that Stranger Things has huge potential to be a platform to explore different sci-fi / fantasy narratives (a la Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Black Mirror, etc).
