As the rest of the civilized world strips down to its skivvies and prepares to enjoy Pride in the hot summer sun, we here Down Under are bundling up for the winter and settling in for some fabulous queer cinema.

Out Takes 2011 starts in Wellington this weekend and features films like the controversial LA Zombie (which got banned in Australia for its explicit content—if you haven’t heard about it, let’s just say “Dead guys don’t say ‘no’!”), Le Tigre: On Tour (directed by friend of FOF Kerthy Fix), and Stonewall Uprising which should be a must-see for all LGBT youths looking to learn more about our history and our ongoing struggle for equality.

I can’t be the only Kiwi lurking on this board. If you’re in the Wellington region, come and catch some shows!

The best friend Evil Eddy went on to make gay porn and is now back making horror films.

Movie description-
Charlie Brewster (William Ragsdale) believes that his next door neighbour Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire. His belief is strengthened when mysterious deaths of girls are reported. When Dandridge confronts Charlie in his own bedroom one night and tries to kill him, Charlie concludes that the monster must be destroyed. But since nobody believes his story he enlists the help of Peter Vincent, the vampire killer from his favourite horror TV show, who is in fact sceptical about vampires existing for real.

I went to a baby shower of a good friend the other day and it put me in baby frame of mind. But my mind is twisted- so here are five horror movies featuring pregnant women that I found on Youtube.

You may not be surprised that a couple of them were made right after the landmark Roe v Wade case.

1- Rosemary’s Baby

This is the best film of the bunch- lots of suspense as we see the ever cute Mia Farrow fall victim to the conspiracy of a Satanic cult. I don’t why this film, which was originally in color, is in black and white on Youtube, but it’s still a good watch.

2- The Stranger Within

While technically, not a horror film, this TV movie made right after Roe v. Wade, features Barbara Eden from “I Dream of Jeannie” struggling with a mysterious pregnancy. Drink every time you see a pendulum, a clock, a car pulling in or out of the driveway or Barbra Eden guzzling super hot coffee – pre-Starbucks!

3- It’s Alive

Another movie made right after Roe v. Wade with the tag-line for “There’s only one thing wrong with the Davis baby…. It’s Alive.” Don’t scare the baby in this movie, he’ll kill you.

4- The Brood

Mama gets what mama wants, and this case, it’s murder. Samantha Eggar stars as woman who creates a brood of children that do her bidding after undergoing experimental psychotherapy.

5- Braindead A.K.A. Dead Alive.

Peter Jackson made this film that features a zombie baby. It’s full of dark humor and plenty of gore.

I love how slutty these dance girls are in this B movie “The Horrors of Spider Island.” The dance troupe auditions are so campy that I’d love to see drag queen recreate it. Bonus, there’s even a lesbian couple among the girls.

Plot: A plane crash leaves an all girl dance troupe stranded on a deserted island where a mutant spider bite turns the troupe’s male manager into a monster.

The guys referenced the legendary Lauren Bacall and her High Point commercials in today’s show, so I thought it was time to share a couple more nuggets of Fresh Brewed Flavah featuring the legendary actress.

This one I found in a set of commercials on YouTube. I extracted the clip and posted it on its own. It’s almost as good as the “Favorite Time of Day is Night” clip we all know and love:

Finally, here is Ms. Bacall getting in her fancy limo for a ride– replete with coffee service, of course. Only the finest for the grand dame.

The smash Broadway hit musical Wicked, a Wizard of Oz prequel of sorts, based on the fantastic novel by Gregory McGuire is headed to the big screen! The creative team behind the stage version are in talks with several heavy hitters including JJ Abrams (“Lost” and “Star Trek”), James Mangold (“3:10 to Yuma” “Walk the Line” and the iffy “Knight and Day”) Rob Marshall (Oscar winner for “Chicago”) and best of all (please, please, please) Glee creator Ryan Murphy. At least three of these directors are out Gay men.

If Murphy is picked, hell if any of them are picked, I think Glee has demonstrated that Lea Michele would be an amazing choice to take over the role of Elphaba the witch of the title adjective whose story the musical is. She is not only a singer of emormous gifts, and a great actress, but a dead ringer for the now too old to pull off the role Idina Menzel who has been playing Lea’s mother on Glee. I have no clue who could possibly fill the giant and yet tiny shoes of Kristen Chenoweth in the role of the delightfully self absorbed good witch Glinda (Galinda), hell can we just let her pretend to be 18?

Wicked’s stage runs have generated over 2 billion (yes I said BILLION) in grosses worldwide so this was inevitable, and the success in the last decade of screen adaptations of Chicago, Hairspray, Dreamgirls and Mama Mia make the journey for Elphaba and Glinda to the big screen a fairly easy bet for studios (reportedly Universal) and producers.

I can’t wait!

for more on the story visit: http://bit.ly/aPVpyc

I must admit, I am a bit of a “gaymer.” I own a Playstation 3, know who Adam Sessler is, and can explain why the Wii’s technology is actually only popular, not technologically advanced. Like many in the gaming community, I was rather upset with Roger Ebert’s declaration back in April that “Videogames can never be art.”

Ebert has expressed this sentiment multiple times before, but with the internet culture we live in today, it went viral this time leading to an astounding 4500 negative comments on his Sun-Times blog post. Despite what you might think, the controversy was not necessarily in what he said. The controversy was whether he, as a film critic who has never played a video game, has the right to make such a declaration, and more specifically that it can “NEVER” be art.

Geeks be praised, he has apologized. On July 1st, 2010 he penned a lengthy apology titled “Ok kids, play on my lawn” that he posted to his blog. As he mentions in his blog, him making such a declaration without having ever experienced a video game is akin to “reviewing a film he has not seen” and that “never is a long, long time.”

What do you think?

How do you feel about video games? Are they, or can they ever be “art?”

Should Ebert have apologized for his original post?

This is Ryan with 300 words (or less) to make your Monday a little less taxing.

I recently attended a midnight screening of Pink Flamingos (1972), the cult ultra-dark comedy about a murderous female impersonator Divine, the filthiest person alive.

Compared to the other midnight movies I’ve seen, I was surprised by the difficulty it was to find ways the audience can participate in the film. After consulting Wikipedia, Peaches Christ, cult websites, and imdb.com I was able to piece together an experience.

So seats and couches don’t reject you, the following is a video for anyone looking for what to do when going to a midnight screening of Pink Flamingos. Enjoy.

Here are five movie sex scenes that I believe are unintentionally ridiculous. I know there are a lot more out there and I’d love to hear what your favorites are.

Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway Do It in Three Days of the Condor

I wish this Youtube version was little better, as you can’t really register the surprised look on Faye’s face every time she gets poked by Robert. And what’s up with the cutaway scene of New York City? I’ve heard of “lay back and think of England” but New York?

Showgirls Champagne Showers and Undulations in a Pool

Elizabeth Berkeley as Nomi Malone and Kyle McClahacn as Zack Carey get it on in the pool after taking a champagne shower. I’m pretty sure that in her final throws of passion, Nomi’s crotch is no where near where it needs to be for penetration to occur unless Kyle’s penis in on his belly button.

Click here for the NSFW VIDEO

Moment by Moment

As if their lovemaking wasn’t coy enough, in a post coital hot tub scene Lily Tomlin beckons a naked John Travolta to join her with a hand gesture that I think only lesbians or the high priestess of some ancient cult understand. John also begs her not to smoke pot and he refuses to make love to her again until she professes her love for him.

The Broken Macaroni Sound of Brokeback Mountain

In Brokeback Mountain’s sex scene you can almost hear the sound of macaroni breaking at Heath Ledger takes Jake Gyllenhall from behind.

Can two guys ever go camping again without someone calling it a Brokeback weekend?

There’s no nudity but this video may be NSFW

Every Love Scene in 9 1/2 Weeks is Ridiculous

Every love scene in 91/2 Weeks is ridiculous but he feeding frenzy scene is probably the most famous one. If someone ever invites you to watch 9 1/2 Weeks be prepared for some funky stuff to go down and have a fridge full of food and an empty stomach because this person is probably a feeder.

This is Ryan with 300 words (or less) to make your Monday a little less taxing.

The Feast of Fun has occasionally talked about the Horror genre, but have they ever seen House?

Hausu (1977) (House) is a Japanese experimental fantasy horror comedy. An idea from the director’s 7-year old daughter bursts the story of a teenage girl (Gorgeous) who impulsively invites her friends to her aunt’s house. Gorgeous leads her gaggle to the house she has only visited once and re-meets her aunt, who she has not seen in a decade. Secretly a ghost, she is waiting for her husband who went missing during WWII. In the mean time, she has a few hobbies.

Instead of Podcasting, she enjoys possessing her niece, murdering her friends, and feeding off the flesh of marriageable young woman who happen to stop by her house. She also likes to collect pictures of her accomplice, a cat named Blanche who has been living with Gorgeous for quite some time.

House hit the state of Michigan Friday April 25th at midnight. An enthusiastic crowd at the State Theater in Ann Arbor came ready to experience this series of WTF moments. To try and capture the essence of this film, I have thrown together a 30 second preview.

If Podcasting doesn’t work out for Fausto or your job isn’t going so well, am I the only one thatsees a potential career change?

The first-ever film version of Lewis Carroll’s tale has recently been restored by the BFI National Archive from severely damaged materials. Made just 37 years after Lewis Carroll wrote his novel and eight years after the birth of cinema, the adaptation was directed by Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow, and was based on Sir John Tenniel’s original illustrations. In an act that was to echo more than 100 years later, Hepworth cast his wife as the Red Queen, and he himself appears as the Frog Footman. Even the Cheshire cat is played by a family pet.

With a running time of just 12 minutes (8 of which survive), Alice in Wonderland was the longest film produced in England at that time. Film archivists have been able to restore the film’s original colours for the first time in over 100 years.

We probably missed your favorite film, so please let us know what your favorite film in this genre is.

Mommie Dearest (1981)

The face that launched a thousand drag queens. Who can forget Faye Dunaway’s unforgettable portrayal of Joan Crawford? Here is a video clip from 2007 featuring drag queen Lypsinka, John Waters and others talking about the film.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

Hag warfare. A great psychological thriller, black comedy, and over-the-top camp classic is this great trashy melodrama. The best part of this movie is that in real life, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford hated each other.

The Craft (1996)

Peaches spent last year working on her directorial debut film “All About Evil” which she also wrote about a mousy librarian who discovers her inner serial killer to save the family business- a failing movie house. It stars Thomas Dekker and Natasha Lyonne with Mink Stole and Elivra out of drag, Cassandra Peterson.

Actress Rena Riffel, who played the dim-witted dancer Penny Hope in the camp classic “Showgirls,” seems to be single handedly revitalizing interest in the film and turn it into a bona fide franchise.

Rena is creating her own YouTube movies as “Penny Hope” which include some of the insane dialogue from the film.

I’m not sure if she’s in on the joke or not, but you gotta love her for trying! I’m still thinking we could organize Goddesscon, a 3-day conference for fans of the film, in the same spirit of a Star Trek convention. But where to hold it? In Las Vegas of course! With a night out at the Cheetah and a show at the Stardust!

Now, over a decade later, I think everyone’s ready to embrace the insanity of the film and possibly create a sequel, or even a prequel to the movie. What would the film’s plot be?

Comedian Sabrina Matthews was scuba diving off the coast of Myanmar when she was attacked by a barracuda that sliced through her diving mask and slit her left eyeball wide open. A year and several operations later, Sabrina sees the world in a whole new way.

Being a comedian and having a disability is like being a superhero in a comic book with the heightened powers of keen observation. Sabrian’s noticed almost all eye injuries portrayed in movies involve the left eye while the right eye is the untouched or sacred eye of film?

Join us as Sabrina fill us in on her life and experience as a stand up comedian. Just because she’s gay doesn’t mean that she hasn’t noticed what men do with their own packages. Why do guys touch themselves so much? Why do comedians look down on dick jokes? We have the answers.

Wes Anderson is a director with a quirky world view. When Rushmore debuted in 1996 with its quirky attitude on character, dialogue and story, it felt like a witty breath of fresh air. But, with each subsequent film, Anderson’s quirk became less charming and challenging and felt more like mere affectation and a distraction from any truth behind his character’s journeys.

With Fantastic Mr Fox, an adaptation of a Raold Dahl book, Anderson has finally found a story, a collection of characters, and a particular way of cinematically telling the story that is a perfect match to his own odd world view. Who knew that stop motion animation would seem to be the medium Anderson was born to work in?

The film tells the story of a fox, Mr Fox, a smart, sophisticated, urbane poultry thief who gives up his dangerous ways for marriage and family and settles into an unsatisfying domestic life as a columnist, husband and father. But Fox eventually finds this life dull and wants to move out of his boring literal “hole in the ground” to a home in a more upscale residence in a “tree with a view.” Against the advice of his Badger lawyer, he takes up residence in a tree with a spectacular view of three farms which are overflowing with chickens, cider and turkey. These seductive reminders of the thrills of his former career are too much for him to resist and he puts his family, his home and his entire community of woodland creatures into the cross hairs of the farm owners, the delightfully evil Boggis, Bunce and Bean.

One of the quirks of Anderson’s films is a particular style of art direction and costume design that seems to float in a weird hard to place time continuum. The fashions, technology, architecture, interiors and even the character’s interests feel old fashioned, modernist, and hiply new all at the same time. This visual atmosphere is completely captured by the stop motion technique, and the character design that seem lifted from a 1970′s Rankin/Bass Christmas special and yet have a completely edgy independent voice that is very much rooted in our current sensibilities. The animals exude marvelous charm and wonderfully individualized personalities. The sets are perfect and all the more fascinating because of the awareness that these are kind of elaborate dollhouses built on a massive scale for Anderson and company to play around in.

The voice acting is pitch perfect. George Clooney exudes that modern Cary Grant charm of his even when it’s all coming from a 12 inch fake fur fox. Meryl Streep’s long suffering wife is just another in a long line of great roles for her. It is Jason Schwartzman though, a longtime collaborator of Anderson, who is the real scene stealer as the insecure jealous Ash, Mr Fox’s diminutive son who must compete for his father’s attention against the perfection, good looks and athleticism of his visiting cousin, Kristofferson.

Fantastic Mr Fox is a complete delight. Fascinating, compelling, rich and a wonderful match of filmmaker, medium, character and story. A

On today’s show with singer and Madonna expert Melissa Young, we talked about how “Koyaanisqatsi” the 1982 film directed by Godfrey Reggio with music composed by Philip Glass and cinematography by Ron Fricke inspired Madonna’s music video for her song “Ray of Light.”

Parts of this groundbreaking film used time lapse photography to capture the activity of modern life, taking events typically shot at normal speed and accelerating them.

If you look at the trailer, you’ll get a glimpse of the movie that inspired ___ the director of Madonna’s video. There’s even a woman who resembles Madge at 1:33!

Today, writer and film critic Gregg Shapiro joins us to talk about Queer Cinema 101, a new gay and lesbian movie series at the Center on Halsted in Chicago.

The series features screenings of classic gay films and a roundtable discussion with a group of Chicago’s gay print media critics.

We’re also taking a quick look at some of the hot films just around the corner, from Hugh Jackman’s sexy return as Wolverine to Tyler Perry’s fierce appearance in the new Star Trek film.

Gregg’s performing at the Alt Q Music Festival in May and a reading of Poetic Voices Without Borders 2, also at the COH, so be sure to check him out.

What Would Peaches Christ Watch? A campy horror film with lots of gratuitous sex, violence and wild women on the verge of insanity, of course!

Brainchild of filmmaker Joshua Grannell, Peaches Christ is well known in San Francisco for the 10-year-running Midnight Mass movie events where drag queens perform tacky skits before the screening of a campy feature film.

The hilarious, insane and loosely scripted performances with outrageous costumes (check out her film-dress here) hark back to the hippie Cockette shows of the late 1960s. Peaches is our kind of gal!

Don’t let the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence inspired eye make-up fool you. Peaches Christ is dead serious about her love of film and the success of Midnight Mass is a testament to her passion for great movies and the value of a gay sensibility.

Like our friend Curtis Jensen says, Peaches is a guardian of our culture: “Peaches is presenting a forum for the screening of these films that have always had a special layer of meaning for Queer audiences. I see her as a the queer equivalent of the Cinematheque in Paris, where for years film enthusiasts could be educated about film. She is educating a new generation of queers about the rich cultural heritage of camp and cult film.”

So much in fact that in 2007, Peaches Christ celebrated the ten year anniversary of Midnight Mass with guest appearances by John Waters, Elvira, and Tura Satana. Campy celebrities love Peaches.

So kids, grab a bucket of popcorn and take notes! Class is in session.

Join Marc Felion and me Fausto Fernós as we talk with Peaches about some of the sickest, wildest and most hilarious movies of all time. What does Peaches think about such fabulous films like:
