Swedish indie act The Concretes prove that they can create some awesomely sexy music even without their departed former frontwoman Victoria Bergsman. “All Day,” a standout from last years WYWH LP, shows how they have traded their Velvet Underground-inspired sound for something a little slinkier and a lot more danceable. Far from a dirty word, “lesbian folk music” is a term that has the power to pique my interest and make me run to check out the woman holding the title. While the stalwarts like Amy Ray and Jill Sobule are still around doing great work, a new generation has emerged to carry the torch. To the likes of Chris Pureka and An Horse comes Nicole Reynolds. The Pittsburgh native (and former attendant of local Goucher College) has a tiny, heartwrenching voice that is the perfect medium for some big ideas.
She busted out her powerful track “Like an Ocean” at the DC-are Iota Club for us back in January. It’s has a great message about persecution and self-reliance that should make sense for anyone who was told that they grew up wrong. Check it out!

Everyone’s favorite folk/soul/rock musician joins us for the third time to shoot the breeze about his music career and his new album “Resonate” which you’ll be hearing FIRST here on the Feast of Fools. We’re so excited about the new album and it’s not even out yet, but you get a sneak peek on today’s show.

Eric is the kind of musician that brings people together. When he first started playing his guitar in his dorm room in his freshman year in college, he quickly saw how music could break down the isolation people felt in college by giving them something to gather around on.

Eric dedicates the song “Little Boy Blue” from his up and coming album to a trans listener who won him over on a tour that included stops at GLBT Youth Centers.

Today Eric hits the top of GLBT music charts and uses his popularity to raise awareness to social issues.

I had such a great time jamming with Eric on the tambourine and getting him to ponders the possibility of creating country song with Shirley Phelps, like some sort of twisted Conway Twitty/Dolly Parton duet.
