Come out, come out, wherever you are! Today is National Coming Out Day, where everyone is encouraged to, as Macy Gray likes to put it, “express what is taboo in you, and share yo’ freak with the rest of us, ’cause it’s a beautiful thang.”

Peter Orlovsky and Allen Ginsburg back in the 1960s. They spent their entire lives together.

Today we celebrate the fabulous new film “Howl“, starring James Franco as the late great gay poet Allen Ginsberg whose seminal poem “Howl” broke down social barriers during an infamous public obscenity trial. The film illuminates the meaning of the great poem “Howl” while giving insight into the life of the poetic genius and the trial that changed the publishing world and American expression forever.

“Won’t somebody think of the children” switches political ideologies as the nation finally turns its focus to the struggle of gay youth. In Chicago, over 450 folks attended the candlelight vigil honoring nine teens that committed suicide due to homophobic bullying. What will it take to keep young people from taking their own lives and transform the quality of life for everyone in our nation’s schools?
