If you like this, check out other such content at TheNewGay.net
Jill Sobule has been kissing girls since before Katy Perry was even allowed to use cherry chapstick. So it was exciting enough that her ongoing tour has brought her through Arlington’s Iota Club, and even cooler when she agreed to meet me at its owner’s house the next day for a little impromptu duet/rewrite of her decidedly non-seminal classic “I Kissed a Girl.” And though its embarrassing to sing so poorly in front of Jill and punk elder statesmanJohn Doe, I can still say that this was a great way to spend a Saturday.
I first remember hearing “I Kissed a Girl” when I was 10 and already knowing that things were gonna be hard for me because I was gay. Having a song like that out there was a great way of normalizing who I was and making me excited about it. And now that I’ve kissed several boys myself I’m glad to know it never gets any less exciting.
Thanks, Jill!

Way before Melissa Etheridge and k.d. lang came out of the closet as loving the ladies, Gretchen Phillips wrote songs about the joys of being queer. Being a lesbian in her view was not only fabulous, but hilarious! One of her biggest hits was with the band Two Nice Girls and their song “I Spent My Last $10 (on Birth Control and Beer)” gained national attention, including a mention in Rolling Stone Magazine.

The band broke eventually up, but their music lives on. Last year, they re-released their first album on iTunes for everyone to enjoy.

Since then, this living lesbian legend has been part of The Gretchen Phillips Experience, Dusty Trails, Joan Of Arkansas, Phillips & Driver, Lord Douglas Phillips and The Gretchen Phillips Ministries as well as performing as a solo artist.

She has more bands than I have ex-boyfriends!

Listen as Gretchen plays some hits from the past and performs songs from her first new album in five years, I Was Just Comforting Her.

Join us as we talk about how survive creatively when your band breaks up, appropriating Southern Christian religious right wing culture and the magic of low-fidelity music in a digital world.

There’s just something about Tom Goss’ music that puts you in a happy and peaceful mood.

Our favorite wrestler turned priest turned musician, the very loveable Tom Goss is back with his new album Back to Love. The question is, why did he ever leave love behind?

Tom plays for us songs from his new album and answers your questions through Feast of Fun Facebook page.

Does Tom approach playing his guitar like a wrestler prepares for a wrestling match? What are his thoughts on the Vatican as a seminarian? And did it turn him on a little to wear those wrestling singlets? Find out what he said.

Does Tom approach playing his guitar like a wrestler prepares for a wrestling match? What are his thoughts on the Vatican as a seminarian? And did it turn him on a little to wear those wrestling singlets? Find out what he said.

Gary Ward, also known as Gary Airedale, is here to talk about the music business and offer some insight into getting your music heard.

Gary was fascinated by the live music scene and followed his passion to be a part of it. First, he started his own band Flesh Hungry Dog which then morphed into The Flesh Hungry Dog Show, a music showcase for up and coming bands and variety acts.

Listen as we play some exciting new music from the quirky Retardos de La Mour and the chic The Nice Device which will be playing at The Flesh Hungry Dog Show this Friday, March 7, at Jackhammer in Chicago. Come on out for an exciting night of music and gay-inclusive fun!

<itunes:summary>What are some effective ways musicians can get their work heard and build a loyal audience?

I even performed there once way back in 2005. Don’t I look good as a the pope in aluminum foil?
The Japanese have found out a new way to stimulate their economy, by filtering the gold out of their sewage. So much in fact, that one sewage treatment facility has recorded a higher gold yield from the waste than at some of the world’s best mines. Where’s all that gold coming from?
Faye Dunaway and Hillary Duff’s very public cat fight over the legacy of the film Bonnie and Clyde. Who will win?
A new HIV Gene Therapy is on it’s way, immunizing cells against HIV by genetic modification. What could go wrong?

Let’s get a little bit Kloser, don’t be shy. The German born, African raised Jann Klose is here in the home studio and he looks and sounds like a dream.

Jann just dropped by the home studio to visit with us while he was in town to play at a tribute to musician Jeff Buckley who tragically died in a drowning accident in 1997.

We love to play Jann Klose’s song “The Strangest Thing” on our show because of the odd/far out news angles we like to feature on the show. It really feels like the song was written just for us.

Jann was born in Germany but grew up in Nairobi, Kenya and South Africa. He also lived in Cleveland as an exchange student while a teenager. It was while living in CLevelad that he grew to really appreciate music and laid the ground work for the musician he is today. He later performed in musical theater in such shows as Jekyll & Mr. Hyde and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Listen as Charles seduces you in his distinctively gravely voice. We’re sure you’ll appreciate his open and honest lyrics.

We’re also joined by his hot drummer Erik Kessinger and his shy but sexy bassist, Steve Bagwell who round out this fantastic trio from Lawrence, Kansas. We joke that Lawrence is the heart of the liberal Midwest, but it is a liberal college town and there is some good music in the town. This group is happy to call themselves “townies.”

Having two straight men in your band might make you feel like the only gay in the village, but Charles and his band mates represent a whole new generation of queer indie music in which straight men are happy to partake.

They are hitting both the straight and gay venues all over the Midwest, bringing bold, honest songs about desire and submissiveness to crowds who may not at first be receptive but wind up becoming dedicated fans.

Join us as we talk about common mistakes people make in engineering their own music, bridging the gap between straight and queer music, the mainstreaming of leather and why straight men are probably as afraid of getting a girl pregnant as gay men are about contracting a sexually transmitted disease.

PLUS! Charles plays for us three of his songs from his album “Modern Living” unplugged and raw in the home studio.

Isn’t he cute? Here’s a sexy photo of Charle’s incredibly rocking drummer Erik Kessinger, posing for me in a leather sling after their hot set last Friday at Jackhammer, as part of the Flesh Hungry Dog Show.

This photo reminds me of some publicity shots hunky actor Chris Evans took a couple of years ago to promote his upcoming appearance in a Fantastic Four movie. Although the look resembles like he’s stay up way too late looking at bad porn.

<itunes:summary>Charles wants to call you “Sir.” On today’s show we have queer indie rocker Charles S McVey to play for us.

Three times a charm! Thank you for your votes- Feast of Fools.

Forgive my corny pun, but the dazzling singer and piano rocker is in Chicago at the Goodman theater co-starring in the new musical “Million Dollar Quartet” about the legendary Sun records jam session that took place on December 4, 1956, when four of popular music’s most extraordinary talents (Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley) all in their creative prime, came together for a night of music that would help lay the foundation for rock and roll.

Levi Kreis embodies the rebellious musician Jerry Lee Lewis in the show, wowing audiences both with his on and off piano acrobatics both and the power of his raw, passionate voice.

In many ways Levi carries the essence of the musical legend both in his rejection of his Baptist conservative upbringing but still embracing it’s musical roots. Levi Kreis was expelled from his Baptist University for questioning the Bible’s take on homosexuality and Jerry Lee Lewis also challenged the moral code of his day.

When we last talked to Levi, he was on tour across the country with his new album “The Gospel According to Levi” and shared with us a frank look at his life and his relationships.

You’re in for a treat today! Levi super-soaks us with his music and his voice, performing live in the home studio his hits and songs from his upcoming album “Where I Belong” scheduled to be released in January 2009.

Levi is one of those rare musicians who’s sassy personality equally matches his mastery of the piano and the power of his music is delivered by his showmanship.

Having people like Levi on the show is what keeps me personally going. He’s such a dazzling musician, charming personality and a whole lot of fun. We wish the show didn’t have to end, and neither will you.

Levi is also giving away a free song from his upcoming album to all the subscribers of the Feast Blast- click here to subscribe.

Levi shares with us every delicious morsel of music that he has in his body, as he spends over an hour chatting with us about his unusual career and how he reconciles his religious upbringing.

Goodness gracious it’s Feast of Fools!

Ben’s back in town to perform at Mary’s Attic this Friday and Saturday and we highly recommend the show.

We chat with Ben about his FAME moment when he started posing for “artistic” photos and wound up naked with only his ukelele to cover his manhood.

Madonna’s was awfully courageous to do a collaboration with Justin Timberlake, after all, the last diva to share the stage with him had a wardrobe malfunction that left her titty a poppin’ in front of millions of eyes.

We borrowed some of Madonna’s courage and took on her invitation to create our own cover and video of the song, “Four Minutes.”

Madge is picking the “best ones” to feature in a TV special. We’re SO wanting to be in this. Will it happen? Only if you believe in faeries.

The controversial memorial to the the gay victims of the Holocaust was unveiled in Berlin. The memorial is simple grey rectangular stone and features a video clip of two men kissing.

Some people are comforted that the memorial is ready for the 75th anniversary of the Nazis raid and book burning of the Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institute, which was run, of course by Magnus Hirschfeld, an early gay activist. The Institute advocated sex education, contraception, the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, women’s emancipation, worldwide civil rights and the social acceptance for gay and transgender people in a time when most people couldn’t even begin to discuss these things.

This raid on the Institute signaled the beginning of the persecution of gays under Nazism and some people say that the famous pictures and archival newsreel film of Nazi book-burnings are usually of Hirschfeld’s library ablaze.

On a local note, Henry Gerber, founder of Chicago’s Society for Human Rights in 1924, the first gay rights organization in the United States, was in contact with the Hirschfeld Institute and was inspired by the German homophile emancipation movement. The local gay and lesbian Gerber-Hart library, is partly named after him.

Join us as we chat about twins separated at birth suing for damages and our cover of Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland’s new song “Four Minutes.” Hey!

We also open up Van Man’s fan art, is awesome- I want to collect all the fan art and do an art exhibition in a year from now, so please send all your paintings, collages, and drawings to :

Opening for Cyndi Lauper, Levi felt he had come a long way in a bumpy ride of his life as an openly gay man in pop music.

Today Levi lives in Los Angeles with his hunky husband (who are legally domestic partners) and just finished his new album “The Gospel According to Levi.” In his new album, Levi presents a broad range of musical styles, from barbershop boy bands to ragtime-infused gospel.

You might remember seeing Levi in the movie Frailty where he plays the younger version of Matthew McConaughey’s character in Bill Paxton’s directorial debut film about a man’s confession to an FBI agent about how his religious fanatic father’s visions lead to a series of murders.

When we first talked to Levi he was touring with another FOF favorite, singer/songwriter <a href="http://feastoffun.com/archives/2005/12/fof_204_-_one_n.php"target="new">Eric Himan. He had recently come out as a gay man and this past year he’s been working hard to re-establish himself as a musician. Things are looking good, and so is Levi.

Take a good look at Levi’s album art. We rib Levi over his album art designed by illustrator Joe Phillips who is best known for his luscious cartoons portraying the romatic life of REALLY hot young men. He makes everyone look REALLY good.

Don’t think for a moment that Levi has lost his good looks just because he’s using a cartoon to represent his album art! As you can see in the picture here, Levi is in the best shape of his life.

So much in fact that he’s scheduled to play the stripper who finds his spirit in Dell Shore’s film adaptation of his hit play Southern Baptist Sissies.

Sorry gals, he promises no full frontal nudity. Dell, can you help a brother out? Get those panties off!

Listen as we talk in-depth with Levi about getting married and finding the man of his dreams. Disappointed? Don’t be. You might still have a chance!

Do what DDBean did and stalk him in your Official Feast of Fools T-Shirt. He won’t be able to resist you.

Levi also takes questions from the listeners like you through our AIM/Yahoo messenger, feastoffools4u. Believe it or not, he actually gives some surprising advice and shares some interesting anecdotes from his past.
