Actor Joshua Devore is a jack of all trades, and by trade and jack, we really mean it. Better known as adult film star Tober Brandt, Joshua started out as a baptist minister, then turned into a muscle hunk who starred in Titan Media and Chi-Chi Larue’s films.

He’s now taking a new turn in the San Fransisco based Thrillpeddlers theater company’s new play – Vice Palace, a modern update of the Cockette’s notorious show “There’s Blood on Your Face” that starred Divine and Mink Stole.

The play was based on Edgar Allan Poe’s “Mask of the Red Death” and was considered to have foreshadowed the AIDS crisis of the 1980s and early 90s.

Listen as Joshua talks in-depth about the Cockettes, the kooky drag queen hippie theater group from the 1960s and being a modern primitive, who not only has an affinity for body piercings and tattoos, but is also a hook enthusiast who likes to get pierced by metal hooks and transcend the pain into a meditative, sexual state of mind.

Three people were shot and injured, including one 19 year old who is in serious condition.  The motive for the shooting is not known or reported yet, though video seems to suggest that maybe it was precipitated by an accusation of theft.

Violence of this sort  is what precipitated the closure and ending of the annual Halloween Celebrations in the Castro through the inaction and half-assed leadership of Bevan Dufty the San Francisco City Supervisor who represents the Castro.  He is running for Mayor in next year’s election.   Will Dufty and city leaders follow the same path and allow this to be an excuse to end Pink Saturday celebrations?

Lady Gaga will make you pay if you stay in a bad hotel.

A flashmob infiltrates the Westin St. Francis hotel in San Francisco and performs an adaptation of Lady Gaga’s song “Bad Romance.” The event was organized to draw attention to a boycott called by the workers of the hotel who are fighting to win a fair contract and affordable healthcare. Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer activists put the song and dance together as a creative way to tell the hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ people from all over the country coming to San Francisco in June for Pride to stay out of the boycotted hotels.

But as they say in show business, nothing ever really dies. Will “Lash Out” be the next project in the works or will Trannyshack continue in a different form?

Lady Miss Kier is best known as the lead singer and co-producer for the mega-hit band DEEE-LITE, who’s songs “Groove is in the Heart” and “What is Love” defined the sound for a whole generation. Today their music still gets an enthusiastic response from people everywhere.

As an art director and fashion designer her influence was felt throughout the 90s in club kid fashion, video and in graphic design.

Musician Jill Sobule created this delicious music video featuring a lot of San Francisco treats, including La Monistat who we interviewed on today’s show, and her biological female look-alike, comedian Margaret Cho.

Although San Francisco drag queen La Monistat was named 2009′s Best Drag Queen by the readers of SF Weekly, she still considers herself an outsider to the drag world.

With her flair for performance art, self expression and crazy blood soaked costuming, she isn’t your everyday queen on the scene.

La Monistat says she was invited to be a contestant in the first season of Rupaul’s drag race but she declined. Now, why wouldn’t a rising drag queen want the publicity?

On today’s show we’re talking to Dino Socco- the fierce drag queen that is La Monistat!

She’s in Chicago checking out all of the delicacies offered at the California’s Day of Decision and the skinny on Chi Chi LaRue’s new look and music video which mocks Rupual. Does Chi Chi really hate RuPaul or is this just a publicity stunt?

When his desires wouldn’t abate, his family, his wife and his in-laws convinced him to undergo electro shock therapy to cure him. After many treatments and with no guarantee of success, Rick opted out of this unusual treatment and ended his marriage. But he says later it was the kick in the pants he needed to help him to chase his own rainbow colored dreams.

He moved to Sacramento, CA to find the man who he would eventually spend 35 years with. Along with his partner, Rick formed the Association for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) to provide social interaction and to promote pro-gay action.

They group provided a place for people to feel good about being gay and to accomplish pro gay activities. One such activity was to raise awareness about STDs like gonorrhea or syphilis which were very common but were little understood by gay men or even by their doctors.

The pair eventually moved to San Francisco and became involved in the gay scene. Having acquired a law degree, Rick became well known as the “go to” guy if you got busted by the police for what were punishable offenses back in the day. Often times, people arrested for what was considered lewd behavior pleaded down to a lesser crime in order to reduce the risk of being found out and losing work. Rick convinced people to not “plead out” their cases but to go to trail. Eventually, the court system figured out that they weren’t go to win any of these cases so the police stopped targeting gay men.

Rick later ran against Harvey Milk for Supervisor seat in 1977 and lost. He will be portrayed by in the upcoming film “Milk” by Stephen Spinella, an openly gay actor known for his role in Angels in America and Spring Awakening on Broadway.

Listen as we talk with Rick about the horrors of being electrocuted in attempts to change your sexuality, working for gay rights in America at a time when being gay as illegal and where we are all headed in our fight for sexual diversity.

I’m sure it makes some people blush, but in the long run it may break down the barriers on using this vital barrier to help reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

I’m excited that the new movie “Milk” is coming soon to theaters, starring the ever-sexy Sean Penn and Trannyshack fan James Franco. Did we mention there are full nude scenes (with prostehtic wangs) in the movie? Still, some locals in San Francisco are getting anxious over the media attention, saying that they are worried that San Francisco will turn into another tacky destination full of gawking tourists.

A scorned woman is selling her cheating husband’s dirty laundry on eBay. In the spiteful listing, the jilted woman is auctioning off a picture of a pair of lacy black underpants “size humongous” and an empty condom wrapper “size small” found in her bed after her husband allegedly engaged in an extramarital affair with a woman named Kylie. If you’ve had a rough life and it’s your time to go, wouldn’t you want to be buried horizontally? A Puerto Rican man has been granted his last wish – to remain standing, even after death.

Special embalming treatment was used on the corpse of 24-year-old Angel Pantoja Medina to keep him on his feet for his three-day wake. I’m sure that must have been a sight to see the guy standing upright, dressed in his favorite Yankee basball cap, mourned by relatives while being propped upright in the family living room.

and the man who’s last dying wish was to be kept upright for three days.

Brainchild of filmmaker Joshua Grannell, Peaches Christ is well known in San Francisco for the 10-year-running Midnight Mass movie events where drag queens perform tacky skits before the screening of a campy feature film.

The hilarious, insane and loosely scripted performances with outrageous costumes (check out her film-dress here) hark back to the hippie Cockette shows of the late 1960s. Peaches is our kind of gal!

Don’t let the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence inspired eye make-up fool you. Peaches Christ is dead serious about her love of film and the success of Midnight Mass is a testament to her passion for great movies and the value of a gay sensibility.

Like our friend Curtis Jensen says, Peaches is a guardian of our culture: “Peaches is presenting a forum for the screening of these films that have always had a special layer of meaning for Queer audiences. I see her as a the queer equivalent of the Cinematheque in Paris, where for years film enthusiasts could be educated about film. She is educating a new generation of queers about the rich cultural heritage of camp and cult film.”

So much in fact that in 2007, Peaches Christ celebrated the ten year anniversary of Midnight Mass with guest appearances by John Waters, Elvira, and Tura Satana. Campy celebrities love Peaches.
