Heather Gold steals a kiss from my sister at our recent LGBT meetup at SXSW.

The future of the Internet belongs to websites that allow interesting folks to do interesting things together, whether it’s for sex, politics, art or just trolling around.

Finding people who compliment your talents rather than people who are just like you is the key to a successful collaboration, but the Internet doesn’t always make that an easy task because it involves making assumptions on who we’re most likely to be compatible with.

Today comedian Heather Gold joins us to take a look at some new sites for collaborating and how the Internet is changing the way we relate to each other.

Recently, Heather hosted a panel at SXSW on how artists and musicians find new ways to make work together that will sustain their careers. She also just got 20 students to come out as LGBT at a collaborative performance she hosted at Gettysburg College. How did she do it? Hypnosis?

So long Fab, we hardly knew ye.

From now on, “fab” will refer to the merchandise and not the sexual orientation of their site’s visitors. We think the ideas behind Fab/Fabulis were very promising, but maybe their implementation was a bit shaky at times. The site seemed to lack direction and purpose despite the substantial funding they had to work with.

Now what are we supposed to do with our Fab bits? Anyone want 42,503,590 bits?

According to them, here are three reasons they’ve shifted course into design:

1- In eight months, they claim to have only attracted 100,000 members and they didn’t think that was enough membership to turn it into a 50-100 million dollar business.

2- They feel there is a diminished need for gay social media sites since gays are becoming more mainstream.

3- They discovered their best products weren’t gay focused but design items.

We asked some of their competitors for an audio commentary and this was their response:

Courtney Love is paying out of court $430,000 over her possibly defamatory rants against L.A. fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir. I always say “it’s not slander if it’s true.” In this case, we’re not sure what’s going on, but she probably paid them off to avoid the public scrutiny of a messy court battle.

I’m guessing Kanye and Charlie Sheen didn’t want a precedent set, making celebrities liable for their angry tweets.

The lawsuit contained several postings written under Love’s former Twitter account, courtneylover79, that accused Simorangkir of theft and of having a criminal background. The case had been scheduled to go to trial in February, and was expected to be the first trial in which a jury decided whether a celebrity’s Twitter posts could be considered libel.

Facebook, your taste is music blows.

Really Facebook, really? Facebook recently launched their “recommended” pages, supposedly based on what your friends like, but considering that 99% of my friends on Facebook are die-hard Lady Gaga fans, I was kind of stunned and shocked that they recommended a lot of irrelevant music and no Lady Gaga.

Not even Katy Perry.

222 T-Shirts+ Stop Motion= Successful Viral Video

Earlier this year, RhettandLink posted T-Shirt War, an instant success and one of my favorite Youtube videos. This week, they posted T-Shirt War 2: T.V. Commercial. Again, I am impressed with RhettandLink’s creativity and successful collaboration with Joe Penna (MysteryGuitarMan) and Billy Reid (VeryTasteful).

What I’m even more impressed with are McDonald’s & Coke. A lot of companies have been pursuing new ideas online and then ripping them off. In this case, these companies asked the original team to recreate T-Shirt War as a T.V. commercial.

This is exactly what companies should be doing. By everyone playing their part the companies improve their relationship with their customers, the creators are rewarded for their work, and the audience sees a better quality advertisement.

Leading by example, hopefully T-Shirt War 2 will prove to companies that collaboration with the social networkers is beneficial for everyone.

Comedian Heather Gold is gay for the internet, and for a whole lot of other things.
