All hail our supreme commander- Lady Gaga! This weekend Lady Gaga invaded Chicago and like Queen Amidala in Star Wars, she came with many drag queen look alikes who were spotted throughout the city. From downtown to Boystown- we all have Gaga fever.

Wearing nothing more than panties and pasties, the Great Costumed One surprised concertgoers at Lollapalooza when she came out early to boost the career of queer rocker Justin Tranter and his band, Semi Precious Weapons.

Prop 8 has been overturned, whee! But, don’t blow your horn too hard- even though Judge Walker’s decision to overturn Proposition 8 scores a major victory for equality, the battle is not over.

Haters love to fight against civil rights and as long as they are getting paid, they’ll do the job.

This landmark decision will probably go all the way to the Supreme Court and although it will happen after the 2012 election, it might become a significant wedge issue.

Either way we’re confident that soon everyone will be able to marry each other, everybody except robots.

Yesterday, the California Supreme Court announced it’s disappointing decision to uphold Proposition 8 which removed the right for same-sex couples to get married.

Although we taped this show in advance of knowing the decision outcome, many states across the Union are moving forward towards Marriage Equality. The fight may not be easy folks, but we will get there.

A dream deferred isn’t always a dream denied.

When his desires wouldn’t abate, his family, his wife and his in-laws convinced him to undergo electro shock therapy to cure him. After many treatments and with no guarantee of success, Rick opted out of this unusual treatment and ended his marriage. But he says later it was the kick in the pants he needed to help him to chase his own rainbow colored dreams.

He moved to Sacramento, CA to find the man who he would eventually spend 35 years with. Along with his partner, Rick formed the Association for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) to provide social interaction and to promote pro-gay action.

They group provided a place for people to feel good about being gay and to accomplish pro gay activities. One such activity was to raise awareness about STDs like gonorrhea or syphilis which were very common but were little understood by gay men or even by their doctors.

The pair eventually moved to San Francisco and became involved in the gay scene. Having acquired a law degree, Rick became well known as the “go to” guy if you got busted by the police for what were punishable offenses back in the day. Often times, people arrested for what was considered lewd behavior pleaded down to a lesser crime in order to reduce the risk of being found out and losing work. Rick convinced people to not “plead out” their cases but to go to trail. Eventually, the court system figured out that they weren’t go to win any of these cases so the police stopped targeting gay men.

Rick later ran against Harvey Milk for Supervisor seat in 1977 and lost. He will be portrayed by in the upcoming film “Milk” by Stephen Spinella, an openly gay actor known for his role in Angels in America and Spring Awakening on Broadway.

Listen as we talk with Rick about the horrors of being electrocuted in attempts to change your sexuality, working for gay rights in America at a time when being gay as illegal and where we are all headed in our fight for sexual diversity.

What Palin doesn’t understand is that fruit flies are used by researchers to make scientific discoveries that are valuable to just the very causes she says she supports. Without fruit flies we wouldn’t have the advances in genetic research we need to better understand and treat possibly genetic diseases, like Autism.

Is Daniel Cowart, the racist terrorist plotting to kill 88 African Americans including Barak Obama while wearing a white tuxedo and matching top hat a trannie? Maybe not a trannie, but he could be a little bit of a cross dresser. File photos seem to show him wearing eye makeup and pretty bright pink lipstick. High ranking Catholic Church officials blamed the scandalous cover up of child molestation on the church’s tolerance of gay men.

On today’s Feast of Fools we’ve got two authors who’ve written extensively about being gay and Catholic and their experience about speaking out against the institutional homophobia.

Joining us today is Scott Pomfret, Boston resident and author of a hilarious new book Since My Last Confession, a memoir of his experience as a lector in the Catholic Church in Boston and his quest to convince his arch-nemesis, Cardinal O’Malley, to invite him to serve at a weekly mass.

Scott was recently let go from the positions he held at the church because the friars had a problem with how the book was being marketed to the public. They don’t seem to have a problem with the book itself but they find the marketing of the book incongruous with their beliefs.

Also joining us is Jim Leija, a filmmaker, performance artist and longtime listener living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His story “Dance or Die” shares his experience witnessing the aftermath of an outcast high school student’s suicide and how he become the first recipient of a scholarship set up by the dead boy’s parents.

The short story is also included in the book Queer and Catholic, a collection of powerful stories about how being Catholic permanently influences people’s identities.

Listen as we talk about why people tolerate their intolerant religions, the consequences of speaking out and where the Catholic Church’s attitudes will be toward gays in the future.

When his desires wouldn’t abate, his family, his wife and his in-laws convinced him to undergo electro shock therapy to cure him. After many treatments and with no guarantee of success, Rick opted out of this unusual treatment and ended his marriage. But he says later it was the kick in the pants he needed to help him to chase his own rainbow colored dreams.

He moved to Sacramento, CA to find the man who he would eventually spend 35 years with. Along with his partner, Rick formed the Association for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) to provide social interaction and to promote pro-gay action.

They group provided a place for people to feel good about being gay and to accomplish pro gay activities. One such activity was to raise awareness about STDs like gonorrhea or syphilis which were very common but were little understood by gay men or even by their doctors.

The pair eventually moved to San Francisco and became involved in the gay scene. Having acquired a law degree, Rick became well known as the “go to” guy if you got busted by the police for what were punishable offenses back in the day. Often times, people arrested for what was considered lewd behavior pleaded down to a lesser crime in order to reduce the risk of being found out and losing work. Rick convinced people to not “plead out” their cases but to go to trail. Eventually, the court system figured out that they weren’t go to win any of these cases so the police stopped targeting gay men.

Rick later ran against Harvey Milk for Supervisor seat in 1977 and lost. He will be portrayed by in the upcoming film “Milk” by Stephen Spinella, an openly gay actor known for his role in Angels in America and Spring Awakening on Broadway.

Listen as we talk with Rick about the horrors of being electrocuted in attempts to change your sexuality, working for gay rights in America at a time when being gay as illegal and where we are all headed in our fight for sexual diversity.

The Midwest’s largest street fair, drawing over 200,000 people from around the country is happening this weekend and one of the funnest booths is of course Steamworks’ twister booth, which consists of everyday people playing twister with hunky men for charity. This year the charity is Chicago House, so give it up for them.

We’ll be there taking pics and participating, getting ourselves in every twist and turn we can imagine. Winning at twister requires a lot of core strength, something if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer can be quite a challenge. Ugh!

I don’t care, because if I lose, I’ll just wind up on the bottom of a pile of handsome men!

On today’s show Curtis Jensen and Juan Carlos from Steamworks, or as we say in Spanish “Esteamworks” join us to talk about the twister booth and how to put men in vulnerable place where dreams come true. In other words how to flirt with a guy and succeed!

Curtis gives us the skinny on what may happen to San Francisco’s 2008 Halloween festivities which were canceled last year. The gay district of San Francisco was in virtual lockdown last year because of of gang activity and gun fire at the previous year’s Halloween celebration. In 2008, they now propose a Halloween inspired carnival in a parking lot at the AT&T Park that will have fun activities for the children and may or may not include alcohol. Will it be enough though to lure the straights and the gang bangers away from the Castro district though?

Remember the insane, over the top “I Am Rich” iPhone application that cost $999.99? Well it turns out that Apple yanked it off its store after all the negative publicity. One guy had his iTunes shopping preferences set to “one click” and accidentally downloaded the thousand dollar app.

According to the LA Times blog email conversation with Heinrich, the app’s developer, six people in the U.S., one from Germany and one from France bought the $999.99 application. This brought Heinrich $5600 in net revenue.

San Antonio’s Second Baptist Church is fighting hard to rename nearby Gay Boulevard to Second Baptist Avenue in an effort to raise the profile of the church. The city of San Antonio seems ok with it since Gay has “”no significant historical connection” to the city.

It’s not just the gays at Market Days celebrating the summer. Almost all of Italy is on vacation at the beach during the month of August and the churches in the big cities are empty. So instead of the shepherd leading the flock, the shepherd has followed the flock to the beach and is now hearing confessions from the wayward souls in an inflatable church in the sand.

On today’s show Jason Heidemann, the Gay & Lesbian editor for Time Out Chicago talks about Northalsted Market Days, the largest and gayest street festival in the Midwest.

Jason describes the month of June and all the Pride events surrounding it as Thanksgiving with your family which is fun but a time of reflection and thanks for all we’ve achieved.

But Northalsted Market Days is simply one giant gay party with no agenda except to have a good time. In many ways, Market Days is the party we all want to have after the Pride Parade is over but have nowhere to go and often have to work the next day.

Listen as we give you the inside scoop on what to see, what to do and who to do this weekend as over 200,000 people gather to hang out in the gorgeous Lakeview area and feast on street food, drink in public and enjoy the tinny sound of 80s has-been bands like Expose!

One perennial favorite of the street fair is the Steamworks booth which is more like a mini-mall featuring an eclectic mix of staff, porn stars and local residents playing twister for kitchsy prizes. I’m definitively not as limber as some of these famous adult actors, but it sure is fun to “lose” in this game, if you consider losing as lying under a pile of handsome men.

Some men like a challenge, I don’t.

Be sure to keep an eye out on our flickr photo gallery for pics of guys (and gals) kissing each other with joyful bliss. It’s always a hit with the online photo bloggers.

One thing thing that everyone loves to talk about to this day is the phallic, awkward pylons that anchor the Halsted Street area between Addison and Belmont as the official “gay” area of Chicago. When they were first erected, many people thought they were odd, ugly and way too gay, but over the years I’ve grown to like them a lot and embrace their quirky, rocket like presence looming over us like trees in Lord of the Rings.

If these pylons could talk!

By the way, kudos for Time Out Chicago for making their whole issue go gay. It looks fabulous, especially the cover of the handsome young blond man spraying us with his hose and cooling us from the summer heat.

We’re hoping to do interviews from the Mark Twain Hotel in San Francisco and plan on getting as many of the folks from Trannyshack on the show in person, talking about the queer legacy of San Francisco, Harvey Milk, the Coquettes and what it means to the rest of the world. We’re really exctited about the potential of Graffitio, the new iPhone application! This app allows you to attach conversations to places. When you open the application it looks for virtual “walls” around you that were created by other users at restaurants, bars, stores, parks and yes, even public bathrooms. You can write anything you want on the wall and not get arrested for destroying property.

I can see this being a huge hit at Steamworks with graffiti like “I’m in room #214 looking for a submissive twink bear.” We’re sure it will be taken over by the gays, just like real graffiti in men’s bathrooms.

The Sex Olympics comes to complete halt as nine British women in Greece are arrested after being paid to perform in an oral sex contest on the Greek island of Zakynthos. We really wonder just how you judge an oral sex contest. After all, where would you even begin? Is it quantity or quality? What do you think? Help us decide in the comments section.

Fausto started a new work out regimen that’s kicking his ass. He’s doing a twelve week intensive training and he figures if he sticks to this routine then he’ll get a personal trainer to take him even further down the road of body building. Fausto reckons that if transsexuals or body builders can go to such great extremes to get the body they want, then dammit, he can too. I couldn’t be happier and I support him 100% as long as I get to enjoy the sexy results. Please show your support by not feeding him junk food or beer.

We received an email from a listener who was struggling with us flirting with guests, or as he says “.. in your over evaluation and time spent on discussing people’s physical and sexual attraction.” His email really made us think about how we interact with guests on the show.

We came to the conclusion that we subconsciously flirt because it helps create an intimate atmosphere for the show.

I told him that “People like to be told that they are attractive. It helps to open them up and give a good show.

I encourage you to tell the people in your life that they are beautiful and that they mean something to you. You will find, if you are sincere, that you will have a better relationship with them and they too will open up to you. It is that shared experience is what life is all about.”

I also recommend that he listen to the show we did on how to accept compliments.

We packed up the microphones and recording equipment and took our booties down to the “Sexiest Place on Earth,” also known as Steamworks on 3246 N Halsted Street in Chicago.

What a turn out! No longer do I need to imagine the audience being naked, as they really were almost naked. Sporting nothing but clean towels, we were surrounded by hunky and lunky men watching our hi-jinks and tomfoolery.

Listen as Jim Pickett, Tracy Tyler, Sal-E and his surprise guest Terryaki, Marc Felion and me, Fausto Fernós share our wit and wisdom with the good people at Steamworks.

Did I forget to mention we interviewed porn actor Vinnie D’Angelo? Vinnie looks hot so please chack out his pictures as he sat on a very special cake.

The girl who stole the show was Tracy Tyler. Pictured here, she caused quite a commotion when she boldly announced she was going to compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China by becoming the first transgenered athlete to compete in synchronized swimming.

Don’t hold you breath though, as Tracy is not quite ready to go under the knife just yet. Marc and I wrote that skit with the help of Mike Oliphant back in 2004 for the last Olympics in Athens just before we started podcasting. An old chestnut like that deserved a new life and we’re glad Tracy could
shine at it.
