This guy (or gal) wants everyone to know they are Jewish, so they cut out a section of their blinds and displayed this tiny little menorah. The photo was taken on a side street in Andersonville in Chicago which is a very gay area of town. We’re wondering, why was it so important for this person to advertise their religion in this manner? Is this a Jewish-cruising thing we gentiles don’t know about?
We talked about this on our podcast FOF #516 – Day of Silence with Amanda Steinstein.

So when it’s Hanukkah, Jews are supposed to put the lit menorah in the window to publicize the miracle that happened way back when. (That’s why we light the menorah in the first place). Chances are, this person wanted to observe that law and then got lazy and never moved the menorah. Over here in Israel, a lot of people just keep the menorah on the windowsill year round, since it’s as good a place as any to keep it.
