Gynandromorphic Butterfly Hatched at London Museum

Ignoring the cheek of the article title: a rare half-male half-female butterfly has hatched at a natural history museum in London, England.  Its sexually dimorphic traits are split down the centerline of its body, much like a chicken found last year that was half-hen half-rooster; geneticists refer to both these specimens as chimerae, single organisms with genetically distinct cells from two different zygotes.

This species of butterfly is known as the Great Mormon. I hope the LDS church doesn’t send it to a WWASP camp.
