Labs Grow Human-Animal Hybrids

A new report by Academy of Medical Sciences about experiments which transplant human cells into animals for medical purposes said scientists may not be far from giving apes the ability to think and talk like humans.

Human-animal hybrids have been produced by UK scientists for the last three years, they created animal eggs fertilized with human sperm, and cybrids — animal cells that are injected with human cell nuclei. They also created chimeras, a mixture of human cells and animal cells.

Professor Thomas Baldwin, a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences working group that produced the report, said the possibility of humanised apes should be taken seriously.
