Recording Academy Blows GLAAD Off, Calls Buju Banton’s Gay-Murder Lyrics His ”Cultural Perspective.”
GLAAD asks the Recording Academy to clarify why they nominated an artist who writes music about shotting gays in the head, burning them alive; was charged with being part of a mob that severely beat a group of six gay men–permanently blinding one; and last month said “There is no end to the war between me and fa*got.”
And what did the Recording Academy respond with?
‘Stop whining, its his “cultural perspective.”‘

Unfortunately, this kind of hatred is entrenched within the minds of Jamaican youth almost from birth. They grow up to become “musical artists” who sing about shooting the “batty man”. Younger kids hear this “music” and the cycle of hate is reborn. It’s all very sad.
When I get frustrated with the way shit goes down in this country, I gotta sit back and think about my LGBT brethren across the world who have it so much worse.
I just hope he doesn’t win.
Buju can make terrible music with violent lyrics, but what really is tragic is how the Grammy’s have decided in this day and age to acknowledge this hateful person with a nomination. I’ll be pretty pissed if he wins, and even more pissed if none of the award winners (Lady gaga, Beyonce, etc..) stay silent on the matter.
But it is just a Grammy. Nobody respect the awards. Check out this Simpsons clip.

1- Homosexuals do not rape little boys, the corret term for men that have sex with boys is pedophile. Anyone can be a murderer regardless of sexual orientation.
2- Acting as though he did us a favor for not performing the song is ridiculous, as if stopping asking people to kill someone is a favor.
3- I don’t know that Buju has renounced the lyrics or apologized for it.
4- And so know you come here threatening gays if Buju gets a long prison sentence for a crime that has nothing to do with us? he was arrested for drugs not hate. Go talk to the police about the situation, maybe they’ll understand your complaints.
A pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to children. Could be little boys or little girls. LGTB people are attracted to consenting adults of the same sex.
This is Buju Banton’s fourth Grammy nomination.
“Boom Bye Bye” does not mention any child or any rape. When Buju rants on the stage, he rants about LGBT people.
All indications are that Buju Banton is as homophobic now as he was in 1992.
When “Boom Bye Bye” was released in the U.S. in 1992, it was instantly controversial. After being dropped from the WOMAD tour in 1992, Buju apologized. Then he continued to perform “Boom Bye Bye” until 2004. Buju Banton also repudiated that 1992 apology soon after he made it. In 2007 he signed the Reggae Compassionate Act, a promise not to promote hatred or violence. He almost immediately started to deny that he had signed the Reggae Compassionate Act, even though his signed form is on the internet.
This intense homophobia that we see in Buju Banton is fairly common in reggae dancehall performers.
