UPDATED: Trannyshack UK Wins Lawsuit Brought By Heklina

As I reported earlier this year,

Heklina, the San Francisco drag queen and founder of the long running Trannyshack drag show sued a British outfit for copyright infringement. Heklina claimed that Trannyshack UK is being confused for her show and it diminishes the brand she created.

Apparently, the suit has been thrown out because Heklina’s lawyers didn’t follow up with letters from the UK authorities on the intellectual rights to the name, and so the owners of Trannyshack UK are now official owners of the title in the European Jurisdiction – and no one else (including Heklina) can use the trademark without Trannyshack UK’s approval anywhere in Europe.

UPDATE: From Facebook, Heklina tells us -

I just showed this article to my lawyer-this is simply an amendment we filed, before we discovered a better avenue to pursue. We ignored it, therefore it was tossed out. I, and my US and UK counsels, are very much moving forward. For the UK people to try to call this any sort of “victory” shows how little they know about the law…..Even if they tried at this point to come up with another name, I still have to move forward now, the ball is rolling!
