Microsoft has released a statement that there has been a policy change to it’s code of conduct for Xbox Live users. Previously, any term that could be considered self-identifying of one’s sexual orientation in any gamer tag or profile was immediately rejected on the basis that it could potentially be hate speech. Basically, it was Microsoft’s way of saying they didn’t have the time or inclination to actually read each profile to determine whether or not this was the case. With this policy change, however, Microsoft is doing a complete 180 and not only allowing self-identifying terms, but have also committed to screening all gamertags to determine whether or not they are being used in a derogatory way.
