Recovering Alcoholic Matthew Perry Gets Offered Free Beer From Waiter at 2010 Emmy Awards

I was trying to narrow down my favorite moment from the Emmy Awards on Sunday. Should I pick the Glee opening number? Or maybe the touching Jewell tribute to the celebrities we’ve lost in the last year.

No, actually I think I’m going to go with the one moment that flew under the radar and no one has yet touched upon. Let me give you a little back ground. As part of presenting the Outstanding Director of a Variety or Musical, Ricky Gervais ripped on Mel Gibson and was generally hilarious. To take the edge off, he offered free beers via waiters to some of the celebs in the front rows, including Matthew Perry.

For those of you who don’t know, Friends star Matthew Perry is a recovering alcoholic.
