The Adult World of Lego-Unstacked

This is Ryan with 300 words (or less) to make your Monday a little less taxing.

With the underground culture of Adult Lego fans?

That’s right, apparently 5% of the Lego market is for adamant adults that are a very passionate minority of the revolutionary bricks. One of these passionate people is Jonathan Bender, author of the book Lego: a love story. I had the opportunity to hear him speak at my library and found his “coming out” experience with Lego fascinating.

Speaking about “The Dark Age,” the time before embracing his love for Lego building, he spoke about how uncomfortable it was to acknowledge his love for something supposedly designed for just kids. Through attending displays of true brickmanship and conferences for “lego lovers,” he found he was not alone. After being accepted into the community and incorporating his journalistic profession, he wrote a book about the adult fans of the Lego.

I haven’t read it yet, but any book on unimagined sub-cultures definitely will make my summer reading list.

Potentially dumb question: I usually buy used copies of books from other Amazon.com users to save money. Does the Amazon.com kickback only work if you buy new copies?
