Because men have more power and opportunities in India, parents are paying this doctor to change the sex of their daughters to boys. This is such an awful awful twist in miracle that allows transgendered people to live as their true sex. China was never the only country to kill it’s girls or abort them before they were born. There are some communities in India that have killed so many girls in past generations that the men have to import wives.

This doesn’t surprise me.
From what I know about it there’s a lot of time, effort and money involved in going through a sex change operation in the U.S. I guess in India it’s something you can do on a whim given enough monetary resources?
Reminds me of one really dumb TV movie I was watching in the early 90s. I think they were shooting for Leslie Nielsen’s brand of comedy but were going way over the top. Anyway there’s a scene where this woman is finding out that her best friend is really her dad (despite them being about the same age) because “Well I was drunk with the guys one night and got the surgery”
But these are forcible changes performed on young girls who do not identify as boys. They are also very young.
