Grassroots Stay Rooted Despite Chica-’Gay’ Inc’s Woes.
I wrote a blog for Equality Across America today talking about my main question for ALL the established organizations that have existed since before the Prop 8 life support jolt that has left us with hundreds of self-operating, money = whatever LGBT groups that keep staying alive.
I described the LTBTQ community climate a bit, much of which the Feast of Fun boys got to long before I did, but if your interested in the rest I posted the link. Listen to today’s show to hear more about the Chicago Free Press implosion over the past few months!
Please comment if you have ideas! IT’S A QUESTION FOR A REASON, RIGHT?
What do we need to do to get the organizations, with the political/financial power the grassroots community thrives without, to sit down with the grassroots community and actually hammer out a game plan? Do we hold coalition meetings in every city we can and stalk the established and often fundraising organizations until they finally sit with us in our hippie circled talk about how we can work together despite our differing opinions on tactics and politics?
Or do we just operate as separate but equal, which is what a lot of organizations in Chicago seem to think is a good operating model? Ok, not just Chicago. I think it’s an issue facing many of the now thriving grassroots communities.
What happened to “The people united, will never be defeated”?
