Westboro Baptist Church won the case in the U.S. Supreme Court in which they were being sued for 10 million dollars for protesting near a military funeral.
The ruling was 8-1 with the lone dissenter Justice Alito. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority-
“Speech is powerful. It can stir people to action, move them to tears of both joy and sorrow, and — as it did here — inflict great pain. On the facts before us, we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker,”
