NZ McDonalds Offer Free Wi-Fi, but Block Gay Sites
New Zealand’s queer community has had it out with local McDonald’s branches this past week over their policy of blocking websites with LGBT content from being accessed through their recently installed Wi-Fi service.
McDonald’s originally claimed it was simply following a “family friendly” policy by barring explicit sexual content, but mild-mannered sites like Rainbow Youth and Agender were inaccessible as well.
It has since lifted blocks on the aforementioned sites and others like it, but maintains a ban on some like GayNZ.com, allegedly over the racy nature of some of its third-party advertisements, possibly also for its heated editorials over the whole mess like this one.
