Sex advice columnist, podcaster and NPR darling Dan Savage has launched a YouTube channel with his hubby called “It Gets Better.” They’re asking for videos from people who want to provide support to gay teens who face the haters, discrimination and bullying in high school.
One of the common themes in any social/new media that involves LGBT audiences are the heart wrenching stories of young queer people struggling to make it and keep their heads above water when living in places that are hostile to gay youth.
Considering the enormous volume of coming out stories already available on YouTube done by and for young LGBT people, it’s going to be great to see this taken to another level with the resources that Dan Savage can put behind it.
In their introductory video, Dan and his husband Terry Miller talk about coming out, their struggles as young men, how they met and a very touching story by Dan about watching the sun rise in Paris with his son.
What do you think? Is the title of the series “It Gets Better” refering to how life gets better for LBGT people when they grow up or the quality of his videos. (Just kidding)
Considering Dan has a B.A. in Theater from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will we be seeing a Broadway version of Savage Love on his YouTube channel? Congratulations on starting the channel guys!
