VIDEO: Dr. Who Goes Gay in the Movie ”Christopher and His Kind”

Feb 20, 2011 · 19423 views

The movie “Christopher and his Kind” is inspired by Christopher Isherwood’s 1976 autobiography of the same name.

The movie focuses on the Isherwood’s (played by Matt Smith – Dr. Who) first travels to Berlin in 1931 and 1933, where both the romanticised sexual freedoms and the threat of fascism are seamlessly integrated into this snapshot of the inter-war years. To Isherwood’s reserved English sensibility, the city’s thriving gay subculture is thrilling and intoxicating, but he soon finds himself heartbroken after the failure of a hopeless love affair, and so sets out on a process of self-discovery.

Different actors appear in this 90 minute biopic including Douglas Booth, whose character Heinz becomes a love interest for Christopher as well as Imogen Poots as aspiring actress, Jean Ross and Toby Jones as Gerald Hamilton, the man who provided inspiration for Isherwood’s book.

If you are in Europe you can watch the movie legally online on the French-German culture channel Arte for the next seven days. There is a French and a German dubbed version.

I really like the movie and Heinz (Douglas Booth) was absolutely adorable.

The culture channel Arte could already show it because it is the partner of the gay Berlinale (a annual film festival which currently takes place in Berlin), called Teddy award.
