ETSYLEAKS BOMBSHELL: Glitter’s Not-So-Sparkling History

Glitter has been around a long time, long before obscure gay holidays or the current rash of glitter bombings that have dazzled the nation in its wake of sparkles.  Etsy’s All that Glitters: The History of Shiny Things, alleges that glitter-like substances may have been used in since Paleolythic times and that the US Army even considered sending glitter out the back of airplanes to confuse RADAR during World War II.  What we think of as modern day glitter may have been conceived of in 1934 on a cattle farm in New Jersey when Henry Ruschmann devised a way to repurpose material from landfills.
