Here’s a little halloween special from 1976 that stars the campy gay icon Paul Lynde. While you might not recognize him immediately, you would certainly recognize the face & the voice. He was a very frequent member of Hollywood Squares, played Samantha’s uncle on Bewitched, voiced a number of cartoon characters (including the rat in the original Charlotte’s Web animated film, and Mildew Wolf, originally of the cartoon “It’s the Wolf”, and later (and more famously) of the Laff-A-Lympics cartoon), and has appeared in many other old movies & TV shows.
For some reason, someone thought it would be a good idea to give this snarky TV personality his own hour long variety show, even thought he wasn’t good at singing, dancing, and he really really hated kids.
The hour long hot mess was co-written by Bruce Vilanch (who is responsible for many hilarious atrocities in the 1970s) and features both Witchiepoo from HR Puffnstuff (Billie Hayes) and only time the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) from Wizard of Oz ever appeared elsewhere.
Also appering are the musical guests: KISS, Donnie and Marie Osmond, Betty White and Florence Henderson (the mom from Brady Bunch) serving up MILF realness in a song medly “That Old Black Magic.”
Just in case you don’t want to sit through the entire horror show, here’s probably the best part, Florence Henderson (the mom from the Brady Bunch) singing The Olde Black Magic.
