You asked for it, you got it. We’ve got a whole show about the man who put the “HO” in Idaho, ultra-conservative Republican Senator Larry Craig, from Idaho. On today’s show we’re talking to the […]

  1. Larry Craig looks so creepy lurking in that thumbnail pic. I just have to wonder how can he be charged with a crime for doing what he did foot tapping etc. There was no sex. Its crazy that you can be arrested for this. Straight people have lovers lanes and the cops may knock on the window and ask them to move along. Although I agree totally that Larry Craig is an asshole, but should he of been arrested for it, probably not. Great show guys. Thx for supporting the ABCs out there. You brighten my day.

  2. Jamie says:

Very interesting and informative show. I am always impressed by the range of guests you have on. I’m curious, who is your “dream guest” you have always wanted, but weren’t able to get? (yet)

  3. Barbara says:

I vote for Nancy Grace. She now has time since leaving Court TV. She is expecting twins at 49 yrs old so she is probably sitting around a lot with her feet up.

  4. Cliff Dix says:

I love hearing someone like Mike Rogers. Someone who knows all his stuff and can talk down any conservative with just plain facts. Knowing what is going on is essential in taking on conservatives who live in a dream world manufactured by sound bites and twisted definitions. Arm yourself with the facts.

  5. Mdvanii says:

Intelligence is the sexiest thing in a man.

  6. I’m soooo happy I’m not American. Your political atmosphere is enraging. The fact that all of these hypocrites and liars can get into power and distort reality is insane.

    Great show today guys.

  7. Gary T says:

GREAT SHOW GUYS!!! Thank you Mike for your hard work.

Any show where Marc laughs so hard he snorts is a good show.

  8. Very interesting show. One thing though. Does it really make an anti-gay republican a hypocrite to participate in gay endeavors? I mean, isn’t he just a puppet for his constituents? His job is to represent the people that voted him into office, and that may entail him being forced to be against gay rights and such? This was an argument I was having with a friend of mine earlier this week, though it would make an interesting conversation.

  9. Dr. T- I think he’s considered a hypocrite because he’s someone who enjoys sex with other men, yet as a politician stands in the way of gay people’s hopes and dreams.

He ruins it for himself in the long run. If you think gay sex is so immoral, why are you having it then on your own?

I don’t necessarily consider Foley to be a big of a hypocrite because behind the scenes he was a somewhat moderate Republican and didn’t always tow the party line when it came to GLBT rights.

  10. Great interview guys, lots of fun and insight, bring Mike Rogers back!

  11. matt says:

I ran for State Assembly and people told me to be anti-gay for popular support, but that would be dishonest. I basically came out, and pissed off loads of California Republican Party insiders in 2002 when I was interviewed in the Sacramento Bee.

If you are representing a Republican leaning district you could be right wing on other issues, but fostering inequality is just sad.

I would like to see a spectrum of political personalities to be on such as Pam Spawlding, the guys from The Malcontent, the heads of the Illinois Log Cabin and Stonewall Democrats.

This is another fine episode to be stored for posterity on my hard drive. Good work.

  12. I would love to see a porno starring Larry Craig and Ted Haggard — h a w t :0 By the way, whatever happend to Ted?

  13. Ace&Bubba says:

I loved this show guys. Mike was a great guest who kind of pulled back the curtain on gay political life in Washington D.C. I really like the opening with the police interview that was a very nice touch. Marc and Fausto you two had great questions and it was a very well done show. I would love to hear Mike back on the show sometime it seems he has his finger on the pulse in DC.

  14. MouseGirl says:

This show was great. I like the political one and Mike Rogers is an interesting guy. I’d love to live a day in his shoes.

Hannity and Colmes are set up by Fox network to make Democrats look dumb and like pussies. Colmes, while he may actually be a Dem, his job is to pretend to argue the side of the Democrats, when he really just makes the Republican side stronger. Fox reporters are pawns. Watch the documentary “OutFoxed”.

  15. Great show, it was absolutely wonderful. It was great hearing about all the in-the-closet action going on in Congress.

I wish I could donate! But, sadly, I’m just a poor high school student who is currently unemployed. Still, I wish you guys the ebst of luck in getting the moolah together to go out to California!

  16. I agre Mouse G- the “liberals” in these types of pseudo-discussion shows are always made out to seem like bottoms to the sexy ultraconservative tops.

  17. Xavi says:

EXCELLENT SHOW!!! Please have Mike on regularly for us political junkies.

  18. Gosh I hope I never have some lunatic stalking me ready to expose any indiscretion I may commit because he disagrees with my politics. Then say something like oh well I don’t think Hooligan did anything wrong, but its the bigger picture that matters.

As a gay republican I have never felt more hated then I do right now after listing to this show.

Im not a big fan of hate. I disagree with most people on the left, but I don’t hate. I would not want to see there family torn apart or there career ruined because I don’t agree with there politics.

Considering Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act.

The Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, is the commonly-used name of a federal law of the United States that is officially known as Pub. L. No. 104-199, 110 Stat. 2419 (Sept. 21, 1996) and codified at 1 U.S.C. § 7 and 28 U.S.C. § 1738C. The law has two effects
    .
No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) need recognize a marriage between persons of the same sex, even if the marriage was concluded or recognized in another state.
The Federal Government may not recognize same-sex or polygamous marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or
recognized by one of the states.

The bill was passed by Congress by a vote of 85-14 in the Senate[1] and a vote of 342-67 in the House of Representatives[2], and was signed by President Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996.

So spare me when it comes to the outright lie that only Republicans are against gay rights.

    Oh yeah and….

The new federal pension law signed Thursday by President Bush includes two provisions that extend important financial protections to same-sex couples.

The first provision, called “non-spousal rollover,” allows individual’s retirement plan benefits, such as a 401(k), to be transferred to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) for a nonspouse beneficiary — like a domestic partner, sibling, or any other designated person.
In the past, same-sex partners were forced to withdraw the amount as a lump sum and faced immediate tax penalties, diminishing savings intended for retirement.
The second provision, known as “hardship distribution,” allows individuals who list their same-sex partner or other nonspouse beneficiary under a 401(k) plan the ability to tap into their retirement funds in the case of certain medical or financial emergencies of the beneficiary.
In the past, federal law permitted such withdrawals only for employees’ legally recognized spouses or dependents.

I know I know Republicans are EVIL. Thanks A whole Lot I aint evil. Yo!

  19. Xavi says:

Listening to this show didn’t have an impact on me as a Republican. It definitely had an impact on me for other reason, though.

Back to being a republican. I’m on the board of Equality California (check it out http://www.eqca.org). I go out of my way to remind my fellow board members (who are liberal to ultra liberal) that I am a member of the SECULAR right (the entrepreneurial libertarian wing) not the Christrian Right (the freaks that stole my party). More importantly though, I go out of my way to remind them that 100% of our congressional representation (Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Fienstein) either don’t support full marriage equality (how can they lose their jobs?! they represent San Francisco?!) or quietly support equality (I’m not sure on this, but I think Pelosi quietly supports full marriage equality, the others oppose). On top of that, none of the presidential frontrunners support full marriage equality either.

I didn’t hear the part that only Republicans are against gay rights. I’ve been meaning to listen to the show again (it was that good!), so i’ll listen for that.

It is truly sad that the party of Barry Goldwater (who fully supported gay rights) is now the party of the Christianists. I stay a registered republican becuase I live in San Francisco. Its a form of civil disobedience to protest the ultra liberal policies of San Francisco.

I’m not defending Democratics (Democrats?, I don’t even know what to call you guys :-P), but the libertarian wing of the former Republican Party is now mostly Independent or Democratic (Democrat?). Me and my fellow Log Cabin Republicans are probably the only Republicans left who truly believe in fiscal responsiblility and small government.

    Once again, GREAT SHOW!!!

  20. Nancy Pelosi is the only person in Congress that I know for sure supports gay marriage. I think she is a very interesting lady and I like to listen to her speak. She has a view of the world that I do not share, yet she is the only Democrat that does fully support gay rights. No other Democrat does. So if you think they do, you need to stop getting your facts from The Jon Stewart show.

  21. Xavi says:

To clarify, Nancy Pelosi supports marriage equality. But if she supports it and keeps it very quiet, she is only marginally better than the rest of SF’s congressional representation, who do not support marriage equality. I would love to see the first woman speaker of the house be more vocal about her support of marriage equality. I am hoping the voters of California push Boxer and Fienstein out of office for NOT supporting marriage equality.

On a separate but related note, in Canadian provinces with marriage equality, same sex marriages are growing at a faster rate than opposite sex marriages (not sure how they calcuate this metric, though). How’s that for traditional family values! I also love the fact that Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the US and they have full marriage equality! Yet another way that marriage equality not only maintains but improves the sancticty of marriage.

  22. This was an AWESOME podcast. I was really hoping to hear something about Mitch McConnell, the GOP leader who is married to the current Labor Secretary. Rumours of his sexuality have been floating about for quite some time. The politico in me loves this podcast for it’s discussion of important and relevant policy issues, but the gay in me loves this podcast for its fabulousness.

  23. I really enjoyed this episode.

Mike Rogers was a very good guest.

You should have him on again sometime.
