Poor Enrique Iglesias! The dreamy son of latin crooner Julio Iglesias is so fed up from people thinking he has a small penis that he’s issued a press release stating he has a large dick. […]

I hate to wax too esoteric in re: yale girl art project, but here goes. More powerful than the asserted meaning of the project, I find a more interesting facet of this miscarriage/abortion project is the visceral effect it seems to engender from everyone that reads about it.

Now I am as pro-choice as the next person, but I have to admit something about the image of a girl forcing herself to miscarry over and over is disturbing to me on many levels. I’m not sure if I agree with the project if, in fact, it is real; I do know however that it seems to really press the issue of the outer limits of societal tolerance toward a woman’s autonomy over her reproductive capacity. It calls to mind the perennial debate of when life is created, when abortions are improper.

I obviously don’t have an answer to this, but I will conclude in saying that I have found it very interesting that a traditionally liberal and pro-choice media has expressed outrage at this project. Makes you wonder what people really think about the issue that they aren’t saying in polite company…

  2. Forcing yourself to miscarry over and over again and then making an art project out of the remains is disturbing, that was her intent.

I knew a girl who used this type of procedure for birth control so the artist really isn’t that far off from what some women already do every month. The girl I knew barebacked and then before her expected period she would take herbs and supplements to induce menstruation. She considered it to be a natural form of birth control.

You can read more about it at http://www.sisterzeus.com/Sharing.htm which the author of the page describes as “My vision for this page is this…..A place where women can share their experiences using herbs for contraceptive and abortive purposes”

shvartz is a genius…the methods and themes she’s using are not that new to art but she has managed to be original enough to make headlines and make art a relevant topic in current events…the morality of abortion is irrelevant.

as the guys mentioned, chicago is a warzone. i blame it on the failure of chicago public schools, the DEET in our water supply, and the smoking ban creating a sidewalk culture.

I was laughing so hard with Marc singing and the big dick jokes I nearly fell on the floor. Coworkers were asking what’s so funny, but I obviously couldn’t say otherwise I’d get in trouble. So here’s one for you that I heard long ago: My dick is so big, I can fuck an elevator shaft!

  5. Rhea says:

On a lighter note, I really enjoyed Marc’s rendition of “The Farmer In The Dell”. Too funny!

  6. AZ1577 says:

Richard Quest a big ole’ leather bottom? Who would have thought! Maybe he will keep his outdoor scenes to a less conspicuous park!

  7. AZ1577 says:

Any artist who feels the need to include term like “inspire discourse” in an artist statement about a body of work that they haven’t even completed is just a hack. I’m guessing that she expecting conceptual art-starved patrons to be chomping at the bit to see the finished work, but it simply isn’t going to happen. If she were serious about this project, she would spend the nine months playing Roto-Rooter with her reproductive system, document the process, and present it without claiming to draw attention to anything.

  8. Rhea- I love it when Marc sings too. 馃檪

  9. AZ1577 says:

In the realm of poop art, the Susan Robb piece is actually pretty interesting. It’s kinetic, it was well executed and it’s intent isn’t so abstract that the artist is the only one who can relate to it.

When all is said and done, I can see Aliza Shvartz saying “I was going to do it, but I had so much homework and I broke up with my boyfriend because he got tired of storing my menstrual squeezins’ in his dorm.”

  10. Jonas says:

I loved when you guys talked about the recent ramblings from Stephen Hawking. Now I like the guy, but I agree with Fausto – it’s not like he comes up with anything that hasn’t already happened on Star Trek. Poor thing, he probably thinks he comes up with the concepts all by himself. That’s what happens when you teach an old man how to search Wikipedia.

So more star stuff! I love it when you guys talk popular science!

  11. PureeTofu says:

Just relisted to the show, and the Jesus cookies in my family are called “Jeezits” (say like cheese it)

  12. Nidocamen says:

The opening to this one was just ridiculously funny!! “My penis is so big……….I wear orion’s belt as a cock ring” ROFL!!!!

I was an altar boy too……but never got to drink the wine! My parents were ultra-conservative Catholics……..so my coming out process was……hmm, interesting 馃檪
