At times, some guys find themselves having sex with other men, not because they are in denial, but because they are attracted to the speed, taboo and the thrill of two guys getting it on. Can you really seduce a straight man and if so how much beer do you have to bring to the party to make it happen?

    Marc,

Thanks for explaining Dune on the show. I have been trying to figure out that freaking story for decades!

Also, I think exchanging content for access to the podcast is a great idea.

Marc explained the context but not the subtext. Yes, the context is that the Bene Gesserit (witches) were working for millennia to bring about the Kwisatz Haderach (male witch, if you like), but weren’t ready for it to come in the person of Muad’Dib Atreides (the Dune Messiah), because of their interest in the flow of Spice. The subtext however is fundamentally about ecology. Spice is oil. Arrakis is the Middle East. And, we, the United States, are the House Harkonnen, occupying, raping, and pillaging the holy lands. There’s also a lot of religion and politics sprinkled into the subtext. The Dune Messiah is a destroyer of worlds. Messiahs are disruptive. People are killed in their name. People die for them. Muad’Dib comes to upset the order of things, not to bring balance. There’s also an allusion to Rome and Caesar here. Does all that make sense?

    Hey Fausto and Marc-
Thanks for another great show. I think straight gays have sex with men because it feels good! Fausto – you sounded very sincere in explaining the reason for Plus+ and the availability of scholarships. Oh, I also voted for the podcast !

Would you let a woman suck your dick just because it would feel good? Straight men have sex with men because it is a category confusion. Straight is just somewhere on the scale, and some straight-identified men fall in the bisexual spectrum.

    About fucking time

    I love Feast of Fun!

  5. Than says:

Dune is the greatest sci-fi series ever, hands down.

  6. MaxT says:

OMG I have been outed!! was it that obvious? I am blushing. Who wouldn’t fall for Brian? 😉

Dune is one of my favorite books. Actually Dune is the 1st of 6 books. Forget about Lynch’s movie, which isn’t half as good as the book. Dune is very difficult to make into a movie because it is so rich. This is the number one SF book.

    • Than says:

The David Lynch adaptation was butchered by the studio. It was incoherent. The Sci-Fi Channel miniseries, however, were quite good, much more in-depth. I mean, come on, Alice Krige, THE FUCKING BORG QUEEN, as the mother of Muad’Dib! How does it get any better than that? And James McAvoy as Leto II? Hot!

      • MaxT says:

I agree. The only regret, if any, is that they didn’t have more money, because the miniseries’ advantage over a movie is that they have more time and can develop and include what they should cut in a movie for time reasons

Hey Guys… great show. Glad it went all over the place and not just on straight men who have sex with gay men. My experience with it is straight men often feel it isn’t cheating on their woman because it is a guy.

As for the Star Trek references, nerdy stuff to note. Zachary Quinto can’t do the actual Vulcan salute. His little finger pops out… he had to have it glued to his other finger during the scene where he does it.
Also Patrick Stewart was recently on The Nerdist Podcast and was talking to them about how he use to not have a sense of humor. It was Star Trek TNG that helped him get one as the cast looked at him like he was a crazy man when he kept at them to be more serious. Over time he relaxed and the cast made fun of him about his “Lets Get Serious” speech any time he was joking or proposing some kind of play time. So he was indeed like his character in the beginning.

i’ll come out and say that I am not ashamed to admit that I am one of those ladies that very much enjoy seeing dudes getting getting it on with each other ;P Yet you’d be surprised how many women are like this. I follow this blog on tumblr that is nothing but animated GIFs made from gay porn *cough* and the guy who runs it often gets messages from women who say they love his blog. Some straight women just love gay porn, but then I think there are also women who would identify as trans/wanting to have the body of a man so they are more sexually attracted to men having sex with men.

Also, as far as the Plus+ thing goes, if I didn’t have to pay the full annual fee for the Premiere account I would have no problem paying for an account but since I’m unemployed right now I can’t afford that $108 fee 🙁 but maybe soon I can afford the monthly $14 fee..right now I get my money from my parents and I try to spend as little of that money as possible especially since I have to pay for gas every week for my stupid car. Yet luckily I have the FOF scholarship, which I am very thankful for because I can’t live without FOF but at the same time I don’t feel like I quite deserve it cos I know there are other listeners who are much worse off that I am…so yeah. :I

    Dear Fausto (and Mark),

I was very proud to hear your opinions about bloggers who accuse others of prejudice and bigotry just because of they have their specific sexual desires posted in their online profile. I absolutely agree that shaming them is the wrong way to fight prejudice. When you shame someone, you are not inviting a discussion on the matter; in fact you are coming very close to saying “There is no room for discussion”. When was the last time that you changed your mind about an issue because someone publicly shamed you?

As for the idea that a person’s sexual proclivities can be seen as a symptom of bigotry and racism, I think these bloggers are confusing two very separate issues. If we are to follow this logic, simply choosing to post that you are gay in your online profile you could be accused of being a male chauvinist because you do not want to have sex with a woman. Bigotry and racism are beliefs. Beliefs can be changed. A person’s sexuality is a part of their being. A person’s sexuality is not a chosen belief system.

On a lighter note, I just got my tickets to Peaches Christ’s Halloween party!!! (Listen to me. Excited about going to a drag party. I am so ashamed)

As a straight male Feast of Fun listener, I felt compelled to toss in my two cents. 🙂

I’ve never had sex with a man (FoF hasn’t converted me yet!), but I had a friend in college who matches the description in that article. When we were in college, he identified as bi and had sex with guys occasionally. After college, he told me he thought it was more accurate for him to identify as straight, and that he had just slept with men because, in his words, “It’s a lot easier to pick up a man than a woman.”

Of course it is possible he was just going back in the bi closet, but all his long-term relationships were with women, and, maybe more importantly, all his porn was girl-on-girl (we were roommates for a couple of years, so I stumbled across his porn from time to time). He was also very manic and hypersexual. He loved to defy social conventions, and he was pro-LGBT. Which all corroborates his story that he was indeed straight by inclination, but had sex with men because he had a very strong sex drive, men were available, and he had no hang-ups to stop him from hooking up with them.
